"My sister has a strong personality. When she was taken away by the enemy, she deliberately took off the ring that her grandmother had left for her, took out a handkerchief and a golden oil box that had not been discarded and handed it to her mother. The mother was puzzled at that time, and only afterwards did she realize that the sister had left the most cherished thing to her relatives, that is, she was determined to fight the enemy to the end. ”

At the Liu Hulan Memorial Hall in Wenshui County, Shanxi, 66-year-old Liu Jilie tearfully told reporters about the arrest of his sister Liu Hulan 74 years ago. At that time, he was not yet born, and when he was a child, he heard his mother talk about the murder of his sister, and his mother cried, and he also cried.

On January 12, 1947, Liu Hulan was killed by the enemy in Yunzhouxi Village, Wenshui County, at the age of 15, due to the traitor's whistle-blowing.

Located at the foot of the Lüliang Mountains and on the banks of the Fen river, Yunzhou West Village is a Pingchuan village with more than 1,000 people. In October 1932, Liu Hulan was born into a local peasant family.

After the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japan, the party's anti-Japanese contingent came to Wenshui to carry out anti-Japanese rescue. In 1938, the Wenshui County Anti-Japanese Democratic Government was established, and a series of democratic reform measures such as rent reduction and interest rate reduction were implemented in the county. At that time, opposite Liu Hulan's home was an "enemy work station" of the underground party of the Communist Party of China, and the teenager Liu Hulan often went to listen to anti-Japanese stories and learn to sing anti-Japanese songs. After the anti-Japanese democratic government opened the anti-Japanese primary school, Liu Hulan also had the opportunity to go to school. Gu Yongtian, a 19-year-old Communist Party member and governor of Wenshui County, led a guerrilla force to successfully ambush Japanese soldiers and also went to Yunzhou West Village to propagate anti-Japanese resistance, which was the "hero" in Liu Hulan's mind.

During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Liu Hulan's father, Liu Jingqian, and others delivered supplies to the Eighth Route Army. When the enemy's artillery fire came, some people threw down the supplies and ran away, but Liu Jingqian hid in the tree pit, waiting for the enemy to leave, and then went around the mountain, always to deliver the supplies safely. Liu Hulan's stepmother Hu Wenxiu was once a member of the Women's Rescue Association of Nanhujiapu Village, and after marrying over, she often used the opportunity of spinning threads to teach Liu Hulan to read and teach Liu Hulan the truth of progress.

"Under the influence of the revolutionary atmosphere and the family atmosphere, Liu Hulan grew up quickly and understood early on how a person can live a valuable life and die meaningfully." Chen Xiangping, former deputy director of the Liu Hulan Memorial Hall and president of the Shanxi Women's Heroic Martyrs Research Association, said. In 1941, a villager in YunzhouXi Village was brutally killed by the enemy while transmitting information for the Eighth Route Army. Soon, Gu Yongtian also unfortunately died. When the bad news came, Liu Hulan said to Chen Yulan, a friend of the same village and Chen Xiangping's second sister: "These two people died really 'steel bones', if I die, I will die like this!" ”

In 1942, the first children's regiment of Wen pingchuan was established in Yunzhou West Village, and 10-year-old Liu Hulan served as the leader of the children's regiment. She often stood guard, sentry, and delivered intelligence with her friends. On one occasion, the Eighth Route Army surrounded an enemy regiment, and the county women's minister was ordered to organize militia stretcher teams to support the front. Liu Hulan and several women also had to support themselves. The head of the unit advised them: "There is a war ahead, and it is very dangerous." Liu Hulan replied boldly: "The soldiers are not afraid, we are female militiamen, and we are not afraid." "They were brave on the front lines, not only bandaging the wounds of the wounded, but also helping the soldiers carry ammunition until dark, when the battle was over. At this time, Liu Hulan was only 13 years old.

After the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japan, the Kuomintang Yan Xishan troops occupied the county seat of Wenshui County, and the soldiers and civilians in the Liberated Areas were forced to take up arms to defend the fruits of victory. In November 1945, Liu Hulan participated in a women's training class organized by the county party organization. After more than 40 days of study, she understood many revolutionary principles and further enhanced her revolutionary consciousness.

After returning to the village, Liu Hulan served as the secretary of the Women's Rescue Association of Yunzhou West Village, and together with party members, mobilized the masses to fight landlords, deliver public grain, make military shoes, and mobilized young people to sign up for the army. Liu Hulan was further tempered and grew up in the struggle and was approved as an alternate member of the Communist Party of China in June 1946. She was only 14 years old.

In the winter of 1946, liu Hulan, after reconnaissance, assisted the armed workers to execute a pseudo-village chief who was a miscreant and hated by the masses. This action dealt a heavy blow to the enemy, but it was also met with frantic retaliation from the enemy.

On January 12, 1947, Liu Hulan was arrested by kuomintang troops and landlord forces. In the face of the enemy's threat, she was unyielding and said in awe-inspiringly: "Fear of death is not the Communist Party!" "The enemy had no way to kill the 6 revolutionary masses who were arrested at the same time on the spot. But she was undaunted and lay calmly under the knife. She wrote a chapter of eternal life with her short youth.

In late March 1947, when Mao Zedong led the CPC Central Committee organs to fight in northern Shaanxi, Ren Bishi, secretary of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and commander of the Central Column, reported to him liu Hulan's heroic deeds of righteousness. On August 1, the Jinsui Branch of the CPC Central Committee posthumously recognized Liu Hulan as a full member of the Communist Party of China.

Liu Hulan did not leave a single photo before his death. The former Yunzhou West Village has now been renamed "Hulan Town". The small willow tree that witnessed the arrest of the martyrs, the branches and leaves were scattered, and the vitality was still tenacious. Chen Xiangping said that since the Opening of the Liu Hulan Memorial Hall, it has received more than 16 million domestic visitors and more than 4,000 foreign guests and friendly people.

The hero is gone, and the spirit lives on.
