Tian Liangming, a gibbon conservationist at Jinan Zoo, told reporters that "Yuanyuan" is the "boyfriend" selected by Jinan Zoo for "Wang Wang", who is 16 years old this year. After more than a month of adaptation, the two white-cheeked gibbons have been very harmonious. "They will make a very long harmony across the cage, and at the same time, they will make very intimate movements across the cage, such as combing the hair, catching bugs and so on."
Tian Liangming said that the wedding is the two zoos to adopt a cooperative breeding method, optimize the breeding and matching program, to ensure the genetic diversity of the population, and look forward to their early birth of small babies, the growth of the gibbon family, and the enrichment of the population. "From today onwards they will officially live together, and hopefully the two of them will be the first to be born noble 'apes' to grow for our national gibbon population."
"White-cheeked gibbons are more specific about love, and once paired successfully, they will remain in a partnership for life." Tian Liangming said that female gibbons dominate, and they will actively court males if they are more satisfied with their "husbands". Male gibbons are generally in a weaker position, in most cases it will avoid female gibbons, and only when courting, the two apes will be more intimate contact.

It is understood that the white-cheeked gibbon is an endemic species in the border areas of China, Laos and Vietnam, and has been listed as a national first-class protected animal due to the scarcity of this species.
