Nanle County surprised the world's most dangerous species - white-cheeked gibbons

This white-cheeked gibbon is a critically endangered species, with only a few dozen in the country, and residents of Nanle County have handed it over to the provincial wildlife rescue center for special rescue.

At noon on October 15, in an abandoned factory area in Dongjie Village, Chengguan Town, Nanle County, a monkey with a black body and white cheeks was hanging upside down in a makeshift cage, swinging its body back and forth. Although there are many people gathered around, it does not affect its self-amusement. Nearby resident Tomoyuki Fanchang stood by, his one-and-a-half-day relationship with the white-cheeked gibbon coming to an end.

At the bottom of the cage, a futon was laid out. Next to the futon, you eat leftover apples, bananas and other fruits. "After knowing that it was a white-cheeked gibbon, I specifically looked up what fruits it liked to eat on the Internet, and bought it some bananas and apples." Duanmu Fanchang said that the monkey was closer to him and would not bite him, but would instead play with his arm.

The white-cheeked gibbon is a critically endangered species in the world, and it lives in a more concentrated area of the tropics and subtropics, so how can it be found in Nanle? Toki recalls that on the night of October 13, he spotted the gibbon next to a nearby national highway and was alone on the side of the road. Seeing him approaching, it took the initiative to run over and extended its arm to him. At night, when it was very cold, he put it in the trunk of the car and temporarily placed it in a small factory area of a friend.

Knowing that the monkey he stumbled upon from the side of the road was a white-cheeked gibbon and a very rare species, Duanmu Fanchang quickly got in touch with the wildlife rescue agency. "After all, it is not a native species, and I am worried that I will not be able to take care of it." He said that through the professional care of the ambulance department, maybe the white-cheeked gibbon can find a good home as soon as possible.

In order to allow the white-cheeked gibbon to be smoothly transferred to another cage, the Henan Wildlife Rescue Center staff aligned the entrances of the two cages and placed some fresh fruits in the new cage. Seeing the fruit, the gibbon quickly climbed to the new cage, and the whole process was only a few seconds. Subsequently, the staff of the Henan Wildlife Rescue Center issued a rescue certificate to Duanmu Fanchang at the scene to thank him for his support of wildlife rescue work.

"According to the current situation, it is not very afraid of people, and it should have been artificially fed." Zhang Guangyu, deputy director of the Henan Wildlife Rescue Center, said that in the next step, they will carry out special rescue for the white-cheeked gibbon, wait until the physical condition is restored, and then further decide its destination.

It is understood that the white-cheeked gibbon inhabits tropical rainforests and subtropical monsoon forests, belongs to arboreal species, and is generally active during the day. They are good at using alternating arms to swing, and are endemic to the border areas of China, Laos and Vietnam, mainly inhabiting tropical rainforests. Usually eat fruits, leaves, and occasionally eat some insects.

Zhang Guangyu said that at present, the total number of this species in the world is very small, and it is a critically endangered species. In China's Yunnan, it is only found in Jiangcheng, Jianshui, Mengla and Luchun Huanglian Mountains in Yunnan, and it is currently only a few dozen. In order to protect this precious animal, China has established a nature reserve in Mengla, Yunnan Province, which mainly protects white-cheeked gibbons.

The white-cheeked gibbon really gave us a big surprise to the Puyang people, especially thanks to Duanmu Fanchang for his active rescue of wild animals, I hope that everyone will learn from this kind person and protect this critically endangered species!
