As one of the series of activities of Shanghai Fashion Week in Spring/Summer 2025, on October 13, the exhibition "Faces Behind Fashion: Sun Ruixiang's Fashion Week Video Documentary" opened at HAI550. The 100 photographs on display in the exhibition were taken by photographer Sun Ruixiang in Paris and Shanghai, divided into different themes, and from the perspective of people and events, to restore the little-known face behind the lively and glamorous fashion.
This group of photographs taken in 2009 was created by Sun Ruixiang in Shanghai. According to Sun Ruixiang, after the Beijing Olympic Games, the world's eyes focused on China, and more and more world-renowned brands also chose to make their debut and debut in China. "At that time, the France brand Chanel made a special Chinese version of their haute couture collection for the first time, and then chose to release it in Shanghai, and this show came to Shanghai, which has a special meaning in fashion history."
2024 coincides with the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France, and in the photographs on display, Sun Ruixiang witnesses the long-term friendship and cultural exchanges between China and France from a unique perspective.
In 2004, Sun Ruixiang, who was still a fashion model at the time, had the opportunity to go to Paris for his career as a photographer due to the exchange of fashion weeks in Paris and Shanghai during the Sino-French Cultural Year, and found a new career opportunity to transform into a photographer in this global fashion capital. Sun Ruixiang told reporters that in addition to going to Paris Fashion Week from Shanghai Fashion Week to learn how to be a model, he also came into contact with a lot of photography-related knowledge for the first time in the public space of Paris and some video materials. At the same time, I saw many excellent photographers in my work as models, and I was impressed by their work status, "After slowly teaching myself photography, I decided to officially transform from a model to a photographer."
According to reports, the works on display this time are mainly sorted out and selected from many photos taken by Sun Ruixiang from 2007 to 2010 at Paris Fashion Week, hoping to show the relaxed moments and strong atmosphere during the fashion week. Sun Ruixiang said that he hopes that through this exhibition, he can show everyone how France's fashion is closely related to our Chinese fashion. Through such pictures, you can better understand what the fashion industry can bring to our lives.
The entire exhibition will be open to the public free of charge on the first floor of No. 550 Huaihai Middle Road until October 31.
