Adobe has announced that it will offer a free web-based app starting next year designed to help image and video creators paste "content credentials" on their work.

In addition to verbally indicating that they are the author of the content, creators can also use the free app to express whether they do not want their work to be used by an AI training system, the company said. The new app will help users quickly apply creator information to images, videos, and sounds, and allow them to exclude their work from generative AI models.

This will allow you to add a wide range of attribution information, including creator names, websites, and social media pages. This approach makes it easier for creators to exclude their work from AI training on a large scale rather than submitting a protection request to each AI provider on a case-by-case basis.

A "content credential" is a tamper-proof relay piece of data that can be embedded in digital content, indicating the owner and creator of a work and disclosing whether AI tools were used. Creators can apply content credentials to any image, video, and audio file, not just content made with Adobe apps.

So far, however, no major AI company has agreed to abide by Adobe's transparency system. In a press release, the company said it is actively pushing for industry to adopt its standards. The app will be publicly tested in the first quarter of 2025, and users will need to sign up for a free Adobe account and no paid subscription will be required.
