This year marks the fifth anniversary of the People's City concept. As the first place to mention, Yangpu has a vigorous development of digital economy and a youthful life, so let's feel this people's city that is becoming more and more "YOUNG......
Editor's note: There is no trivial matter in people's livelihood, and branches and leaves are always related. Elderly care services are related to people's livelihood and connect with people's hearts, and Yangpu has always regarded elderly care services as an important livelihood project, and accelerated the construction of a "happy pension" service system that coordinates home and community institutions and combines medical care and health care.
In order to show the achievements of the development of elderly care services in urban areas, the Yangpu District Civil Affairs Bureau and the Yangpu District Financial Media Center jointly launched the "Exploration Walk· Happy Elderly Care" column to take everyone to understand Yangpu's characteristic elderly care service brand.
Sudden changes in mood, instant forgetting of words, and poor memory...... When the elderly show these abnormal behaviors, it is likely that "cognitive impairment" is to blame. How to protect this group of cute "old children" and guide them to the exit of the "time labyrinth"?
In 2019, according to the "Pilot Plan for the Construction of Dementia-Friendly Communities for the Elderly in Shanghai", the Yangpu District Civil Affairs Bureau took the lead in launching the pilot project for the construction of dementia-friendly communities in the district, and has achieved full street coverage. As the second batch of pilot areas for the construction of dementia-friendly communities in Shanghai, Siping Road Street is innovating and exploring solutions to problems - this year, a series of unique "colorful fun therapy" community service activities for the elderly have been launched, guarding the "memory garden" of the elderly in the form of music fun therapy, color fun therapy, health sports and other forms.

Follow the melody and fight!
"Hit the beat! Around! Right Left! Recently, the elderly activity room in the Anshan Three Villages Community was full of cheerful drums and laughter. More than a dozen residents sat in a circle around the teacher, each with a colorful African drum in front of them. With the melody of "The Girl by the Bridge", everyone's hands slowly played the rhythm on the drum surface.
This is the second class of Siping Road Street Music Fun Therapy - African Drum Music Therapy. Many of the residents who came to participate were screened and found to be at risk of dementia. On weekdays, they may turn their heads and forget things, they may not like to communicate, and they may live a closed life...... But in the music, they gradually opened their hearts. The old people "shook their heads" while beating the drums, humming the lyrics in their mouths, and looking at each other and smiling from time to time...... They seem to have awakened their inner spirits and embraced happy times to the beat of drums.
Resident Aunt Xu, who is at mild risk of cognitive impairment, is at second consecutive event for her. Auntie Xu had never been exposed to African drums before, and she felt excited and new about the event. "It's not hard to play the drums, it's easy to learn. Sometimes I have to alternate my left and right hands relatively quickly, and I can't remember them, but the teacher will be very patient and follow the learning. Aunt Xu said, "Now I am familiar with many of my classmates, and coming here to take classes is like taking music lessons with children, which is very happy!" ”
Since its launch in September this year, African Drum Music Therapy has been mainly serving people at risk of cognitive impairment, and has carried out 1-2 African drum group intervention activities at fixed locations every week, which is expected to last for a total of 6 weeks, enriching the sensory experience of the elderly, enhancing the interaction between the elderly and the outside world, and stimulating the brain to achieve the prevention and early intervention of cognitive impairment.
According to reports, the African drum music therapy program is divided into three stages, the first stage is to learn basic performance skills, mainly to learn the percussion methods of African drums; The second stage is common rhythmic learning, which mainly learns common rhythms, starting from a single 4th note and gradually increasing in difficulty. The third stage is to select the appropriate music for the elderly African drum performance, starting with a simple song accompaniment and gradually increasing the difficulty.
"Teachers are therapists, using technology to drive learning and passion to facilitate experience, and we hope to use the musical experience of African drums to help group members find the motivation to change and achieve physical and mental health." Staff said.
"Colorful and fun therapy" makes cognitive impairment intervention also very interesting
Cognitive impairment is becoming more and more important to all sectors of society.
As a traditional old worker new village, there are more than 26,000 elderly people over 60 years old in Siping Road Street, accounting for about 33.8% of the total permanent population, and the aging problem is more prominent. In 2021, the street became the second batch of pilot communities for the construction of dementia-friendly communities in Shanghai, relying on the Research Center for Aging Language and Nursing of Tongji University on the one hand, integrating the advantages of industry, university and research in universities; On the one hand, it coordinates the resources of the jurisdiction internally, and extensively carries out popular science education, intervention training, and nursing training related to cognitive impairment.
This year, Siping Road Street continued to deepen the construction of a dementia-friendly community. This year's project was officially launched in June 2024, and so far 2,000 cases of basic screening have been completed, and 1,862 cases of low-risk, 120 medium-risk and 18 high-risk cases of cognitive impairment have been identified among the elderly. Based on the results of the screening subjects, the neighborhood conducts targeted interventions.
In addition to African drum music therapy, the street will also open intervention activities such as color fun therapy and health exercises, and take the elderly to paint color scraping and practice Baduan brocade together, so as to enrich everyone's spiritual and cultural life and strengthen the understanding and care for the groups at risk of cognitive impairment in the community.
"We were pleasantly surprised by the fact that we were getting the word out about the event and it was clear that the residents were most interested in African drums. The original plan was to carry out three kinds of activities: music fun therapy, color fun therapy, and health sports, but now everyone is enthusiastic and is considering continuing to carry out African drum activities. Siping Road street staff said that there are many non-drug interventions for cognitive impairment, such as nostalgia therapy, horticultural therapy, etc., and the follow-up street will continue to innovate the form of activities according to residents' feedback, create a spiritual and cultural home for the elderly with cognitive impairment, and protect their "memory garden".
At present, Yangpu District has a population of 423,400 people aged 60 and above, making it one of the central urban areas with a high degree of aging. So far, a total of 65,000 elderly people have been screened for cognitive impairment. Each neighborhood actively carries out cognitive impairment empowerment activities close to the needs of the elderly in the community, such as family mutual aid associations, EEG activation stations, etc., to provide all-round help to the cognitive impairment group and their families.
