2024 "Digital Mulan" B&B Housekeeper Training Fujian Regional Training Program

The "Digital Mulan" B&B Housekeeper Training Program aims to improve the vocational skills and digital literacy of rural homestay housekeepers through systematic training, drive rural women in their positions to increase their income through employment in the homestay industry, and help the development of rural cultural tourism.

So far, the program has trained more than 4,000 people across the country. In Fujian, the project plans to provide vocational skills training for 600 homestay housekeepers, and in addition to the general curriculum, it will also integrate local characteristics such as Fujian tea culture and basic tea art, and Quanzhou hairpin flower wai.

Through systematic training, rural women are encouraged to increase their income through employment in the homestay industry

Lin Fangfang from Sansha Town, Xiapu County, is one of the trainees of the "Digital Mulan" homestay housekeeper training program. In 2021, in order to subsidize the family, Lin Fangfang became an employee of a homestay. In July 2023, Lin Fangfang was "upgraded" to become a homestay housekeeper.

The trainees represented Lin Fangfang and Guo Liuxin

"Although I didn't know how to use pinyin or operate a computer before, I was willing to learn and try new challenges." Lin Fangfang said that after graduating from junior high school, she started a family and became a housewife, and the family's income mainly depends on her husband. However, Lin Fangfang does not like this kind of life that is "out of touch" with society. When she learned that the newly opened B&B in the town was short of staff, she became the first employee of the B&B.

When she got her first salary, Lin Fangfang was very excited - "It turns out that this is what it feels like to earn money by your own labor!" ”。 At the B&B, Lin Fangfang is very popular with guests, and is also called "beautiful chef" by guests. At home, her husband gradually recognized Lin Fangfang's labor, gave her more understanding, and even helped her share the housework. The realization of personal value, the respect of her family, and the recognition of guests all make her full of happiness.

Seeing that Lin Fangfang has strong learning ability and grows rapidly, the homestay owner recommended her to participate in the "Digital Mulan" homestay housekeeper training program. "Many guests choose to stay at the B&B for a few more nights because of my culinary skills, and I hope that after this training, my cooking skills can be taken to the next level!" Lin Fangfang said with a smile.

Improve the professional skills and digital literacy of the country house housekeeper group

Lin Yu, director of the Market Management Department of the Fujian Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, said that in recent years, the homestay industry in Fujian Province has flourished and become an important growth point of the cultural and tourism economy. Up to now, there are a total of 26 tourist homestays in the province, including 2 first-class homestays, 4 B-level homestays, and 20 C-level homestays. With their unique charm, these B&Bs attract a large number of tourists to experience them. As of June 30, 2024, there are more than 12,000 homestays in the province that meet the business standards, employing about 50,000 people, and receiving a total of about 21 million tourists per year. "The implementation of the 'Digital Mulan' B&B housekeeper training plan will further improve the B&B talent training system in our province and provide a strong talent guarantee for the high-quality development of B&B and the implementation of the rural revitalization strategy." Lin Yu said.

"Rural revitalization and talent revitalization are the key. Under the guidance of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, this year we will unite more social resources to continue our efforts, and are committed to cultivating a team of high-quality homestay housekeepers who adapt to the new era, so as to alleviate the problem of insufficient talent supply in the homestay industry from the root, and help the industry to prosper with talents. Wang Jun, deputy secretary-general of the China Rural Development Foundation, said.

It is understood that the "Digital Mulan" B&B housekeeper training program will be launched as a pilot in 2021, and in the past three years, it has developed a variety of classes such as "Mulan Pratt & Whitney Class", "Digital Enhancement Class", and "Mulan Housekeeper Research Camp". Among them, the "Mulan Pratt & Whitney Class" adopts offline small-class teaching to help housekeepers improve practical skills such as room service, fire safety and basic digital literacy. The "Digital Enhancement Class" and "Mulan Housekeeper Research Camp" are aimed at higher-level homestay housekeepers, combined with their long-term development needs, and provide targeted training on high-level capabilities such as digital ability and homestay management.
