Parents are short, children are not necessarily short, and children's height can be scientifically managed, surpassing genetic height! On the morning of October 19, the First Affiliated Hospital of Jinan University held a free clinic and health lecture on "China's Children's Growth and Development Health Communication Action - Guangzhou Station".
Professor Song Yuanzong from the Department of Pediatrics of the First Affiliated Hospital of Jinan University presided over the opening ceremony and introduced the leaders and experts present. Yang Jingge, vice president of the First Affiliated Hospital of Jinan University, said humorously in his speech: "If there was such an event 30 years ago, my height may not be what it is now. In the past, we often heard that 'northerners are tall, southerners are short', and it is generally believed that height is completely determined by genetics and has nothing to do with acquired factors. In fact, acquired intervention and standardized management also play an important role in children's growth and development. He pointed out that the incidence of growth and development problems in Chinese children is high and wide-ranging, and many children are currently at a critical stage of growth and development. Dean Yang reminded parents not to look at their children's growth and development in a traditional way, as height is not only related to genetics, but also to scientific intervention.
Popular science lectures
Deng Mei, deputy chief physician of the Department of Pediatrics of the First Affiliated Hospital of Jinan University, brought a popular science lecture on "Height Can Be Managed" to parents. She introduced that height management should first confirm the expected height. "Although the height management we advocate is guided by the height expectations of parents for their children, it is not about growing as tall as they want, but about determining a general range based on the child's own genetic level. That is, the genetic height of the child is calculated first, and then the expected height of the boy does not exceed the genetic height of +6.5 cm, and the height of the girl does not exceed the genetic height of +5 cm. ”
Deng Mei reminds that regular monitoring of height is key. Growth monitoring refers to the repeated measurement of a child's height and weight at a specific age. The height and weight values measured each time reflect the growth level of the child's age at that time. Children's growth rate is the most direct and simple effective way to determine whether there is growth disorder, and it can be seen whether the growth rate of height is normal by continuously measuring height in different periods.
The scene of the free clinic
After the lecture, the activity entered the free clinic session. Parents will have a free bone age test in the order of check-in. In the free clinic area, Deputy Chief Physician Li Bingxiao, Deputy Chief Physician Deng Mei and Deputy Chief Physician Chen Wenchao patiently communicated with parents, gave detailed answers to the growth and development of each child, helped parents solve their doubts, and provided professional guidance and suggestions to help children grow up healthily.
