Located in the south of Jordan, on the border with Saudi Arabia and Israel and across the sea from Egypt, the Aqaba Special Economic Zone covers an area of about 375 square kilometers and is a famous tourist destination on the Red Sea.
Aqaba is located on an important passage connecting the three continents of Asia, Africa and Europe, and has been a crossroads of culture and trade since ancient times. The Government of Jordan established the Aqaba Special Economic Zone in 2001 and established the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Management Committee, which is responsible for formulating policies and regulations for the development of the Special Economic Zone, implementing day-to-day management and promoting the socio-economic development of the Special Economic Zone.
In September 2013, Shizuishan City in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and Aqaba Special Economic Zone became sister cities. Since the conclusion of the agreement, the two sides have carried out friendly exchanges and cooperation in economic and trade exchanges, tourism and culture.
