According to the latest data, the entity company of Good Doctor Online, Interactive Peak Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd., has recently undergone industrial and commercial changes, and the major shareholder has been changed from the original founder Wang Hang to Shanghai Yunling Enterprise Management Consulting Co., Ltd., which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ant Group, and its latest shareholding ratio of Interactive Peak Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd. has reached 100%.
Lei Jun, Luo Dan and other natural person shareholders also withdrew at the same time, of which Lei Jun's shareholding ratio was 0.97% before the withdrawal. In addition, the company's legal person has been changed to Zhang Junjie, vice president of Alipay and general manager of the digital medical and health division, but Wang Hang still serves as the chairman of the company.
As early as August this year, there was news in the market that Ant Group would acquire Good Doctor Online and plan to merge its business into Alipay's medical and health division. In this regard, Good Doctor Online has responded without comment, and the official news shall prevail.
With the change of industrial and commercial information, the rumors have finally been confirmed. However, as of now, Good Doctor Online and Ant Group have not publicly spoken out on this matter.
The number of real-name registered doctors reached 280,000
As one of the earliest explorers of Internet medical care in China, Good Doctor Online was founded by Wang Hang in 2006, aiming to help users solve various medical problems such as online services and offline medical treatment in one stop. After 18 years of operation, Good Doctor Online has become one of the leading Internet medical platforms in China.
In 2016, Good Doctor Online established Yinchuan Smart Internet Hospital, a pilot online diagnosis and treatment project in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, which has become one of the key innovators and promoters in the field of online diagnosis and treatment, and has also become an important "test field" for regulatory authorities to innovate policies in the field of Internet medicine in the past two years.
According to the official website, as of September 2024, Good Doctor Online has included the information of 940,000 doctors from more than 10,000 regular hospitals in China. Among them, 280,000 doctors registered with their real names on the platform to provide online medical services directly to patients. Among these active doctors, the proportion of doctors in tertiary hospitals reached 73%. At present, Good Doctor Online has served more than 89 million patients.
Since its establishment, Good Doctor Online has been favored by capital, and well-known investors include Lei Jun, Lianchuang Ceyuan, DCM, Zhixin, Chongde, Tencent, etc. Among them, Tencent led the Series D financing in 2017 amounting to 200 million US dollars.
In terms of business model, in addition to Internet online diagnosis and treatment services, in recent years, Good Doctor Online has begun to increase platform service fees and launched membership business. However, although the company is known as a "conscience platform" because it adheres to the principles of not making pharmaceutical profits, not making medical advertisements, and not opening physical hospitals, its profitability has also been questioned by the industry, and it has been exposed to layoffs many times.
After completing a wave of layoffs in December 2022, the company finally broke even in the first quarter of 2023. In June of the same year, Wang Hang issued the "Company's Latest Statement" within the company, which mentioned that the previous adjustment plan did not meet expectations, and the company faced great pressure from multiple shareholders to withdraw their capital and ask for redemption. With the latest acquisition of Ant Group, some industry insiders believe that with the help of Alipay's medical ecology, the business situation of Good Doctor Online is expected to continue to improve in the future.
Over the past ten years, Alipay has continued to cultivate and build a good development ecology, and is now the largest third-party medical insurance service channel and one-stop health service platform in China. According to public data, the Alipay platform aggregates the digital services of more than 3,600 hospitals across the country, and more than 800 million users use Alipay to see doctors, seek medical treatment, and buy medicines.
At the "2024 Inclusion · Bund Conference" held on September 5, Alipay also released the "AI Health Butler" and announced that it will open up medical agent collaboration for the medical and pan-health industries to jointly build an AI health service ecosystem.
At present, Alipay's online consultation platform has been connected to the online doctor resources of Good Doctor. For example, in terms of the number of consultations, a number of doctors from the Good Doctor online platform ranked first, among which the chief physician of general surgery ranked first with nearly 130,000 consultations.
