Some time ago, a friend said that the jasmine leaves in her home were dry and about to fall off. After understanding the situation, I directly asked her to cut all the leaves. It didn't take long for new shoots and leaves to grow.
It is important to know that when jasmine has problems such as dead branches, serious pests and diseases, heavy pruning can be considered, which can help the plant recover its health. Heavy pruning stimulates the plant to send out new shoots from the base, which is very beneficial for some perennial jasmine varieties and can make the plant younger and healthier.
The drying and shedding of jasmine leaves is caused by improper maintenance, so there are some basic points that need to be mastered to avoid leaf loss.
1. Water management: keep the soil moderately moist, but avoid water accumulation. Adopt the principle of "see dry and wet", that is, wait until the surface of the soil is slightly dry before watering thoroughly. Make sure the pot has enough drainage holes to avoid rotting the roots due to standing water.
2. Fertilization management: apply fertilizer appropriately during the growth period, and use balanced compound fertilizers, such as fertilizers with a ratio of 10:10:10 in nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. Avoid using fertilizers that are too concentrated. In winter, jasmine flowers are prone to iron deficiency and can be sprayed once a month with acid-loving plant nutrient solution or ferrous sulfate solution (500-1000 times diluted) to replenish iron.
3. Optimize the environment: Jasmine needs sufficient sunlight to grow and bloom normally, but it should be properly shaded and avoid direct sunlight during high temperatures in summer. Keep the temperature between 20-30°C, and keep the indoor temperature at least around 10°C in winter to avoid freezing the plants.
Maintain air circulation: Especially during indoor maintenance in winter, it is necessary to open windows regularly for ventilation to ensure indoor and outdoor air circulation.
4. Soil management: use loose and breathable soil, and loosen the soil regularly to maintain good aeration. Jasmine prefers a slightly acidic soil environment with a pH of about 6.0-6.5, and ferrous sulfate or alum fertilizer water can be used to adjust soil pH if necessary.
5. Pest control: often check whether the plant has signs of pests and diseases, and take timely measures to prevent and control pests and diseases. Spraying can be done with a suitable insecticide or fungicide.
As long as you understand the key points of jasmine maintenance, you can effectively prevent the problem of jasmine leaves drying out and leaf loss.
