As a layman in the pear garden after the 80s, it was accidental that he and Teacher Tong Xiangling became acquainted. In July 2013, I entered the Shanghai Municipal Research Museum of Culture and History, which coincided with the official establishment of the Oral History Research Center in our museum, and I was fortunate to be assigned to assist Mr. Feng Shaoting, a special researcher of the Center and shanghai municipal archives, to undertake the collection and writing of "Tong Xiangling's Oral History", and was able to visit this "Yang Zirong".
Our oral history interviews were conducted about ten times, each for about two hours, and due to the frankness of Teacher Tong Xiangling, the "ice-breaking" process of the interviewers and interviewees was quickly completed. We watched him laugh and cry, and listened to him talk about the ups and downs of the pear garden and the wind and rain of life.
The old boy has no shelf, loves to joke, and is full of old naughty boys. The weekly oral scene was full of laughter and laughter, which he characterized as "hand and foot mouth": "Not only to speak, but also to have a singing voice and physical demonstration!" "After a long time of contact, I felt his character, I sincerely respected him as "Commander Tong", and he always teased me as "Teacher Zhang". Tong Lao set up an "afternoon tea" link for the interview, always bringing the most beloved radish silk cake to share with us, a question to ask the reason, the sugar content is not high, "can be edible". There are exceptions, once there was a box of chocolates on the table of afternoon tea, Tong Lao introduced that relatives and friends brought back from abroad, when distributing to us, he said that he could not open up to sweets due to blood sugar reasons, and also made a joke about his mother Zhang Nanyun: "I have always told my wife that you are not good to me one day, beware of me a handful of chocolates to end myself, it is so easy!" "It makes us laugh.
After the publication of "Tong Xiangling Oral History", the social response was enthusiastic, and there were often enthusiastic fans who left messages under Tong Lao's Weibo to express concern and greetings, "Commander Tong" was very happy at first, and after a while he felt that it was not right, and discussed a question with me: "Xiao Zhang, why do people say that Teacher Tong, your book is 'written' is really good, why does no one say that Teacher Tong's book 'says' is really good?" Tong Lao and his wife Zhang Nanyun get along, but also the true color does not change, one is naughty and straightforward, one is gentle and quiet, and the husband sings with the woman is their way of getting along. When he was young, Tong Lao once fooled Teacher Zhang into calling himself "Darling", and when Teacher Zhang suddenly realized it, he called out to be deceived, and then regretted it late. Once I went with Shen Feide deputy curator to visit Tong Lao, Teacher Zhang personally cooked hot sugar water eggs for us despite eye diseases, we were greatly moved, praised the delicious sugar water eggs, Commander Tong was a bit of a joke We have not seen the world: "Next time I try the fried sauce noodles I made, that is a must!" ”
In March 2019, in accordance with the working practice of our Museum of Literature and History, I visited Tong Lao and Teacher Zhang Nanyun as the liaison officer of Teacher Tong, and the Mengtong Family was warmly entertained, the atmosphere was relaxed, and I also chatted with the two teachers without restraint, talking about Teacher Tong Zhiling, Elder Tong said: "Unfortunately, you have not seen my fourth sister (Zhiling), you don't see her become famous early, so big horns, there is no shelf at all, very easygoing, and treat people cheerfully and generously. From tong lao's narrative, it is not difficult for me to imagine the style of the "fourth sister" of the Tong family, and the world's evaluation of Tong Zhiling's "now is better than ever".
Tong Lao's expression ability is very strong, so that you can easily feel his emotions and heart. Just like his explanation of the famous Peking Opera section "Sitting on the Building to Kill Pity" played by his mentor Zhou Xinfang: with his expression and actions, he can substitute the audience into Song Jiang's state of mind when facing the fake sleepy Yan Po, from embarrassment, resentment, patience to outbreak, a wave of three twists and turns can not bear it, and finally forced to throw away and kill people with a knife... Although I did not have the opportunity to see the performing arts of Zhou Xinfang, a master of the first generation, from the oral narration and live action demonstrations of Tong Lao, the stage charm of Peking Opera singing and playing has been perfectly presented.

Tong Lao has always been grateful to the Museum of Literature and History for taking care of him, and for the care of the party and the government for the artists. Commander Tong often laughed that he seemed to have acted in the play of "Wise Tiger Mountain" in his life, which is of course a joke, but his life does have a great relationship with "Wisdom Take", it is precisely because he has created the classic "Yang Zirong" role, he has been cared for by generations of "Wise Tiger Mountain" fans, which has become the most touching thing in his later years. Tong Lao lamented that life is like a drama, when he was young, he still passed in front of his eyes from time to time like a movie, and he was in a trance to his old age, fortunately, the family love and friendship of life, he got what he wanted.
