With the gradual popularization of various digital audio-visual equipment and the upgrading of imaging technology, the format of photos and videos is getting larger and larger, and our demand for data storage is increasing. It turns out that Lao Wang is still used to using network disk storage, but for the sake of data security and in order not to pay a high annual fee for network disk, I still chose to use a local hard disk to store my photography and work materials. Of course, if you are using a company or studio, NAS is the first choice, just one NAS device and a few large-capacity stable hard disks can make remote access easy for multiple people to collaborate.
However, the key issue of local storage lies in the choice of hard disk, whether to choose a solid state or an HDD, and whether there is any other simple storage method besides NAS. Choice of high-capacity hard disk - Toshiba N300 18T HDD
Different from the choice of home host hard disk, the long-term storage of our important data and materials needs to ensure stability and data security, taking into account that it may be used 24 hours a day, so Lao Wang I chose this NAS special hard disk - Toshiba N300, two at a time, whether it is hung on the NAS or directly hung on the work computer, you can use it with full firepower.
The maximum capacity of the Toshiba N300 series can reach 22T, and the maximum capacity supported by a single bay of many mainstream NAS is 18T, so the 18T version is also the most popular choice for friends with large-capacity storage needs. The two Toshiba N300s I use are 18T large-capacity NAS disks, CMR vertical disk structure, 7200 rpm, helium sealed, plus 512M large cache, which ensures the stability and efficiency of the work, especially when we process videos and picture materials, almost no chains.
There will be some differences in the speed and cache size of Toshiba N300 with different capacities, but the warranty and speed are the same, and the average price of 100 yuan/TB may be the cheapest local storage solution now, which is very cost-effective.

The biggest advantage of building a NAS is that it is more convenient to access the original and multiple people, for example, the cut film and the repaired picture in the NAS can be viewed directly by my moderator (wife) on the mobile phone, and the 4K video can also be browsed smoothly without lagging, which is really worry-free to use.
Of course, if you want to use it personally or want to save costs, an external hard drive enclosure can also make the Toshiba N300 an important productivity tool. If the hard disk box can copy the data, it will be more convenient, daily backup of the hard disk, the computer does not need to open a key to complete the automatic copy, this is for more important data, I think it is still very necessary. Another point of the external hard drive enclosure is that we need to plug and unplug the hard disk frequently, for example, if you shoot a lot of material, you need to give it to someone else at a time, so it is much more efficient to copy a piece directly to him than to let him download it himself.

Use CrystalDiskInfo to check the basic situation of the hard disk, it took a while, the power-on time was 240 hours, the total number of power-on times was 12 times, in this hot summer, the temperature was only 34 degrees, and the temperature control was also good.

Use CrystalDiskMark to test the sequential read and write speed, the sequential read speed and write speed are 260MB/s, and the official 281MB/s theoretical speed upper limit is not much different, the whole speed is still very fast, almost the fastest mechanical hard disk I have ever used.
ATTO Disk Benchmark
In the ATTO disk benchmark test, Toshiba N300 runs at full speed on file transfer of 16KB size and above, and the read and write speed can be stable at about 250MB/s, which means that this hard disk not only has strong read and write capabilities for large files, but also very fast for small file reads and writes, and the performance is very balanced and stable.

Try running another 20GB with a file benchmark, it's still very stable, although the speed waveform is not as stable as the high-end solid-state, but it is within the acceptable range, and the sequential read and write speed has also come to almost close to the official data279MB/s and 275MB/s, indicating that it is indeed powerful.
