"The torrential rain has finally stopped, and the flood has finally receded—" On July 4, in the Beita Bridge section of the Shangdu Street Resource Community in Xinhua County, Zhu Wei, director of the Shangdu Street Natural Resources Institute, finally showed a long-lost smile in the face of the gradually receding floodwater.
"For half a month, our hearts were tensed, and we didn't dare to relax for a moment." Zhu Wei told the author that since June 20, the Xinhua area has suffered continuous rainfall, and the water level of the Zijiang River has risen sharply, posing a serious threat to the lives and property safety of local residents.
Shangdu Street is located in the central urban area of Xinhua County, which is an area with a relatively high concentration of geological hazards. There are a total of 7 registered geological hazard points in the sub-district, distributed in 5 villages and communities, involving 34 households of residents who built houses on slopes. The existence of these hidden danger points makes the flood control work very complicated and arduous.
Since the county entered the flood season, the institute has strictly followed the instructions of Yang Jianping, director of the county natural resources bureau, and the main leaders in charge of the street, canceled all vacations, and required all personnel not to leave the street where they are located, and to send people on duty around the clock. For half a month, the staff of the institute always stuck to their posts and worked with a high sense of responsibility and vigilance.
"This is a race against time, and we must go all out to win the tough battle of flood control and disaster relief." During the flood prevention period, the institute strengthened scientific scheduling and response measures, deepened the investigation and management of hidden dangers, and made every effort to prepare for emergency rescue and disposal. During the intense flood control work, a total of 46 people from 20 families were evacuated, and 110 people from the women's ward of Yikang Psychiatric Hospital were evacuated to safety.
This series of timely and effective measures has greatly reduced the losses that may be caused by disasters and ensured the safety of people's lives and property.
Throughout the flood control process, the staff of the Shangdu Sub-district Natural Resources Institute showed a high level of professionalism and selfless dedication. They are not afraid of hardships and dangers, face difficulties, and interpret the concept of "people first, life first" with practical actions. Their efforts and dedication have laid a solid foundation for winning this tough battle of flood prevention and disaster relief.
