The book launch of "Shao Dazhen's Art Criticism Anthology" was held in the audio-visual academic lecture hall of the Central Academy of Fine Arts a few days ago.
Mr. Shao Dazhen is one of the "Eight Professors of CAFA" at home and abroad, and won the Meritorious Artist Lifetime Achievement Award at the first "World Chinese Art Golden Pen Award" in 2023. As the first book in China to organize and publish almost all of Shao Dazhen's critical essays in a thematic manner, Shao Dazhen's Collected Works of Art Criticism includes all the art criticism articles created by Shao Dazhen since the 50s of the 20th century, as well as his unpublished critical articles on Chinese art and foreign art. The anthology is divided into "Foreign Art Criticism", "Criticism of Chinese Painting and Oil Painting", "Criticism of Art Trends, Phenomena and Problems", and "Artist Criticism (Volume I, II and III)", which comprehensively displays his profound thoughts on Chinese and foreign art criticism.
Since Shao Dazhen published his first article "Donkeys, Chimpanzees and Others" in New Observation in 1958, he has been writing for more than 60 years, and has written more than 1,000 art criticism articles, most of which were created after the 80s of the 20th century. The articles in the anthology are sorted according to the time of publication or the date of writing, which clearly shows the evolution of Shao's art criticism.
Mr. Shao Dazhen is the first generation of art historians cultivated in New China, his art theory and art criticism have directly promoted the healthy development of Chinese modern art, and he is a thinker, scholar and artist closely related to the development of Chinese art. The anthology published this time not only presents Mr. Shao Dazhen's outstanding academic achievements and distinctive personal style in art criticism in a more comprehensive and complete manner, but also provides a reference coordinate and guiding paradigm for relevant people, especially young art workers, to study Chinese and foreign art-related issues, and also provides a relatively complete set of case documents for the academic theory construction of contemporary Chinese art criticism.
It is reported that "Shao Dazhen's Art Criticism Anthology" was supported by the 2023 Beijing Propaganda and Culture Guidance Fund, published by Beijing Times Chinese Book Company, and will be listed in July 2024. During the event, Song Qiqi, editor-in-chief of Beijing Times Chinese Book Company, and Chen Lijie, deputy editor-in-chief, donated books to the library of the Central Academy of Fine Arts and the library of the School of Humanities.
