Hello everyone, I'm Shibasho-chan, and this is the 206th book I have disassembled.
In the prime of his youth, a Cambridge graduate, full of knowledge and dreams, should have welcomed a bright future.
However, he was enveloped by an invisible haze and fell into deep despair.
His heart was full of uneasiness, always sensing misfortune to come, constantly questioning his own abilities and doubting his own worth.
These negative thoughts swirled around him like vines, making his anxiety and despair grow stronger and stronger. Until after his birthday one year, he stood on the precipice of life and was invaded by a strong suicidal impulse.
On that life-or-death night, he stood on the threshold of two worlds, the endless darkness on one side and the dawn of rebirth on the other.
But in that decisive moment, his consciousness changed dramatically. From that moment on, he transformed from a prisoner of deep depression into a peace-of-heart traveler.
That young man was Eckhart Tolly, whose story and wisdom were condensed in the book The Power of the Now. This book has not only become a beacon of his personal salvation, but also illuminated the life journey of countless people.
Zhang Yiming recommended the book and put it in his public speech.
The source of anxiety for modern man
In this fast-paced era, each of us is under stress and anxiety to a greater or lesser extent. restlessness, apprehension, anxiety, nervousness, stress, cringe, terror...... These manifestations of fear seem to have become the norm in our lives.
Have you noticed that these psychological fears often stem from worries about the future, rather than concerns about the present?
We are in the here and now, but our minds often fly to the future, which invisibly creates a chasm of anxiety.
According to research, 80 to 90 percent of our daily thinking is not only repetitive, but often useless.
To make matters worse, due to the functioning disorders and negative nature of the mind, most of the mind has caused a severe drain on our vibrations.
The brain is like a dog without a leash, pulled forward by various thoughts, running farther and farther until it runs out of the horizon.
The Power of the Present is here to help us solve this problem.
How do you get your brain to stop crazy overthinking? How can I better live in the moment? The author gives a succinct answer.
Think outside the trap of thinking
Let's start with the question: Why do we fall into the trap of overthinking?
In fact, this kind of thinking often stems from dissatisfaction with the status quo and the desire to reform the status quo.
However, overthinking does not allow us to solve these problems, but it is easy to waste time and energy, so that we end up avoiding tasks, procrastinating schedules, and it is difficult to stick to exercise and self-improvement due to serious internal friction.
Behind these actions is a litany of inconsequential thoughts and voices of self-doubt.
"I'm failing again - there's no time - it's been procrastinating, is there something wrong with me? - What if I don't finish it? - If I fail, people will laugh at me"
This inner monologue is a true portrayal of many people in the face of challenges.
Our minds are constantly limiting themselves and doubting themselves, which hinders our actions and growth.
Only after seeing the uselessness and repetition of thoughts can we let go of them.
When irrelevant thoughts arise, instead of following, continue to focus on the task at hand, immerse yourself in the true feeling of the present moment, without judgment or definition.
Take the present as the axis, not the thinking as the direction.
Conscious awareness: We need to develop the ability to consciously observe these inner voices rather than being unconsciously drawn by them. This awareness is the first step to getting rid of mental identity.
Avoid over-analyzing: It is important that we do not get bogged down in the analysis of these voices. Over-analysis often leads to more psychological murmurs than a solution to the problem.
Practice & Insight: As you practice, you may one day find yourself able to face these voices with a detached attitude, just like a naughty child, with a smile and tolerance.
Inner Transformation: You begin to realize that these voices do not define who you are, and you no longer let them dominate your emotions and self-perception.
Accept the present moment
You may say: I want to let go too, but sometimes I just can't! For example, I should be working and studying, but I just procrastinate, keep procrastinating, waste time playing games and watching dramas, and can't stop at all, how can this situation be broken?
Four words, "Accept the Present".
"The Power of the Now" says:
"Fully accept that you are negative, lazy, or passive at the moment, if that is your choice. Please enjoy it to the fullest and be as lazy as possible. If you fully enter this state and become conscious, you will quickly get out of this state. ”
That is to say, continue to do what you want without self-blame, play when you want, and chase dramas when you want, but in the process, you must be completely relaxed and immersed, not allowed to insult yourself anymore, and don't tense up nervously, like a thief stealing someone else's time.
If you try it this way, you will find that when your body and mind feel fully satisfied, you will naturally want to change tracks and do something else.
If you're feeling anxious and can't relax in the moment, make the most of your senses.
For example, standing where you are, looking around, looking at some light, shapes, colors, etc.
Touch something, such as a dining table, a chair, a cup for drinking water, etc., and confirm their presence one by one.
Observe the rhythm of your breathing, feel the inflow and outflow of air, and the life energy surging in your body.
Allow anything to happen, accept yourself and all things for what you are, accept your present state, accept what you are doing now, and go deep into the present moment.
Ma Yili said:
"If you're depressed, you're living in the past;
If you are anxious, it means that you are living in the future;
If you are calm, it means that you are living in the present. ”
We become slaves to our brains without realizing it, living in a world from which it constantly projects fear and suffering, but from which we cannot escape.
Using the power of the present moment, the mind is the Pure Land.
