The Daily Mail reported on July 4 that as electric vehicles grow in popularity, sales of such cars in Australia reached 95,289 units in the year ending June 30, 2024. Among them, Tesla is the most popular, followed by the Chinese brand BYD.
Now, Xpeng, a new Chinese car-making force, has also announced its entry into Australia.
Last week, Chinese electric vehicle maker Xpeng announced that the first deliveries of its G6 electric SUV would begin in Australia at the end of June. Several test vehicles have already been seen in Goulburn, NSW, all bearing Victorian number plates, one of which was in a KFC car park.

Curious netizens asked Wakefield what the car looked like, and he replied: "Very eye-catching, it's a very attractive car." ”

Others believe that the Xpeng G6 could become a strong competitor to Tesla and BYD.
"Do you choose the BYD Sealion 7 or the Xpeng G6...... Everyone was excited about Xpeng's technology and suspension system. "I prefer the Sealion 7, but let's see how these two cars are rated. It's nice to have so many options. ”
"Things are getting more and more exciting as these new options come along."

Wakefield said his current car is the Mitsubishi Exceed Tourer PHEV and said he plans to buy his wife a BYD Sealion. However, after communicating with Xpeng's agent, he doesn't plan to buy BYD.
"I hadn't heard of the Xpeng brand before, I spoke to the agent who drove to Sydney from Victoria and he was more than happy to talk to me about it, but he didn't mention the price," he said. ”
"I think it's possible to order online, but the price won't be announced until September. If its specs and performance are what I want, then I would definitely consider buying one. ”
Wakefield added that testing the Xpeng AWD Performance model (LHD) gave them the idea of buying their first electric car.
The Xpeng G6 is a luxury electric SUV that has been described as a "high-end" alternative to the Tesla Model Y.
So far, there has been no official announcement on the specific price of the Xpeng G6, but it is expected to be less than $60,000.
