Qiao Liang, a retired major general of the mainland, recently published an article entitled "The Taiwan Issue Concerns the Fortunes of the Nation And Cannot Advance Rashly and Rapidly, pointing out that judging from the situation in Taiwan, there is no hope for cultural reunification and can only be reunified by force, but it cannot be made rashly; the Taiwan issue is still essentially a Sino-US issue, and the key to resolving the Taiwan issue lies not in how to resolve the "Taiwan independence" forces, but in the need to first resolve the balance of Strength between China and the United States.

At a time when cross-strait relations are in a stalemate, Sino-US relations are unprecedentedly tense, and the epidemic has hit the United States, including the US military, on a large scale, Qiao Liang's article has naturally attracted much attention. From Taiwan's point of view, there is a sense of relief, but many of Qiao Wen's views are very different from the past, and it is inevitable that it will cause a lot of controversy and even questioning, and it is conceivable that there are at least a few aspects.
First of all, Qiao Liang believes that "China is currently in the opportunity of a millennium rejuvenation", which is very correct. But he added that "the main content of the great cause of rejuvenation is the happy life of 1.4 billion people," not the settlement of the Taiwan issue. This is puzzling: Are the 23 million people of Taiwan not counted within the scope of the Chinese nation? Is it possible that the territorial sovereignty of a country is still in a state of division and can be described as a "great revival"? Could it be that the dignity of nations and nations can tolerate the incompleteness of sovereign territory?
Second, what is the definition of cross-strait reunification? In addition to the strict legal and political requirements of reunification, reunification must also satisfy the return of the will of the people and the identity of the nation. Qiao Liang does not seem to deny that national identity is a serious problem within Taiwan, so he said, "More than 20 million people who do not agree with or even hate you, in what way?" "If this is the case, will it be true that after the great cause of rejuvenation is completed in the coming day, as he said, the settlement of the Taiwan issue will be as easy as a palm?" At that time, more than 20 million people changed from identity to identity? Or is it even more disagreeable than it is now?
Third, the fear that external constraints, that is, intervention from the United States, will lead to a high price in the efforts of the mainland authorities to seek cross-strait reunification, so as to affect or even undermine the process of national rejuvenation, may be an even greater misunderstanding. Many people think that the United States is now suppressing Chinese mainland because it has forgotten the result of Taoguang and obscurity, but it is not.
The United States is now hostile to China because China has become the second oldest, the only opponent in the world that can challenge and shake its hegemonic position. No matter what China does or does not do, beating China down until it can no longer threaten her is the only strategic priority of the United States at present, and even if China openly declares that it will not seek cross-strait reunification, the United States will beat China to death.
The global hegemony struggle between China and the United States is the inevitable development of history and the last hurdle of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, and bravely facing it is the only choice.
