It has been a month since Lai Ching-te, the leader of the Taiwan region, officially came to power, and perhaps no one would have imagined that in less than a month, this "golden grandson of Taiwan independence" would once again plunge the Taiwan Strait into a dangerous situation of military danger and fierce warfare with his own strength. A few days ago, while attending the 100th anniversary celebration of the Taiwan Army Military Academy, Lai Ching-te declared that "we cannot accept the capitulation doctrine of 'the first battle is the final battle.'" The appearance of this provocative remark not only aroused heated discussions in public opinion on the island, but also met with accusations and criticism from many quarters. Guo Zhengliang, a former representative of the Democratic Progressive Party, pointed out that "the first battle is the final war" came from the analysis report put forward by the defense department of the Tsai administration that year, and Ma Ying-jeou cited it to emphasize the avoidance of war, so Lai Qingde's deliberate interpretation is no different from cockfighting, and his political character belongs to the kind of person who does not shed tears when he sees the coffin. It should be noted that this is the third provocative move launched by Lai Ching-te in recent times, and the first two provocative moves were in an interview with Time magazine, in which he once again shouted the erroneous argument that "the two sides of the strait are not subordinate to each other" and when he inspected the Taiwan military units, he called for "using the sea to control the land." Obviously, in order to better accelerate the ambition of "seeking independence and rejecting reunification," Lai Qingde took the initiative to open his core cards in a vain attempt to increase his own advantages and consolidate his "ruling position." In reality, however, Lai Qingde's series of erroneous and provocative remarks will have no other effect than to aggravate tension in the Taiwan Strait and strengthen the mainland's determination to reunify.
Some analysts have pointed out that the main reason why Lai Qingde launched three consecutive provocations against the mainland after taking office is to accomplish three purposes: First, to test the mainland's bottom line and true attitude on the Taiwan issue, so as to facilitate himself and other high-level DPP leaders to formulate follow-up response policies. Second, it should win the support of fanatical "Taiwan independence" elements on the island and the "approval" of the US Government and consolidate its "ruling position." Third, it is necessary to boost the morale of Taiwan's officers and men in the military spirit and make it easier for them to "resist reunification by force" in the future.
However, judging from the situation at the present stage, whether it is "relying on the United States to resist China" or "resisting reunification by force," it is doomed to fail. In recent years, as the tension in the Taiwan Strait has continued to escalate, more and more Taiwan officers and men have chosen to retire early or change their posts, and in particular, the pilots of the Taiwan military have not only been under tremendous pressure on combat readiness, but also the safety and stability of their fighters have not met the expected standards, which has made the pilots annoyed and even more worried about their own situation, because after all, no one wants to become pawns and cannon fodder.
Faced with the choice of a large number of Taiwan officers and men to retire early, the DPP authorities have not taken any new action except to find various reasons to prevaricate. Against this background, there have been voices of surrender on the island, and many people have called on the Taiwan military to take the initiative to disarm and surrender when a conflict breaks out in the Taiwan Strait, so as not to become cannon fodder. At the same time, some people have voiced their anger and denounced the DPP authorities as frogs at the bottom of the well, short-sighted, and have not seen the real world. Therefore, once a conflict breaks out in the Taiwan Strait, Lai Qingde and other DPP leaders have only two choices: either surrender voluntarily and perhaps receive leniency, or stubbornly resist and be wiped out.
