His name is Wu Jiamin, a native of Jinshan, he studied in Ganxiang School in primary school and junior high school, and then went all the way to Shanghai Middle School and Tsinghua University, and is now an associate professor and doctoral supervisor of the Department of Automation of Tsinghua University, a researcher at Tsinghua-IDG/McGovern Institute of Brain Science, committed to the interdisciplinary research of computational imaging, microscopy instruments and cross-scale data understanding, and has authorized more than 30 invention patents in recent years, and presided over the National Natural Science Foundation of China Excellent Youth Project, the Ministry of Science and Technology's disruptive technology project, etc.
Concentrate on innovation and break through problems
Last year, in the imaging and intelligent technology laboratory of Tsinghua University, an optoelectronic fusion chip was born, in this small chip, Wu Jiamin's research team creatively proposed a new architecture of all-analog optoelectronic fusion computing, breaking through the three global problems of large-scale computing unit integration, efficient nonlinearity, and high-speed optoelectronic interface in optical computing on a chip.
Speaking of his research direction, Wu Jiamin gushed: "The energy consumption of data centers is particularly large now, but if photons are used instead of electrons as information carriers, the computing speed can be improved, energy consumption can be reduced, and the computing foundation for future AI applications can be laid." ”
"Traditional microscopes can only observe a few hundred neurons at a time, but the in vivo mesoscopic microscope we developed is the first in the world to maintain single-cell level accuracy in a field of view covering the whole brain of mice, and record the process of hundreds of thousands of neurons responding dynamically at the same time, which provides an instrument basis for studying the working mechanism of the brain and the mechanism of many brain diseases." From conception to modeling, from calculation to innovation, from experimentation to measurement...... In one study after another, Wu Jiamin studied and explored day after day, year after year, witnessing the birth of "0 to 1" research results.
Keep the love of curiosity driven
Curiosity, or the desire for knowledge, is the driving force for Wu Jiamin's continuous progress, which was reflected in Wu Jiamin's student days. "He has loved to ask 'why' since he was a child, and there are a lot of strange questions in his head, some of which I can answer as much as I can, and he will not give up if I can't answer them, so he will read books to find the answers by himself." Wu Jiamin's father, Wu Jinzhong, a physics teacher who just retired last year, recalls his son as a self-taught book of 100,000 Whys, who likes to ask questions and prefers to pursue, explore and give answers.
Wu Jiamin's mother Cao Yuxian is also a physics teacher, she bluntly said that the couple are usually busy with work, and their son actually relies on himself more often on the way to grow up, and has good study habits and opinions from childhood to adulthood, "When I took the college entrance examination, I wanted him to fill in the economics major, but he insisted on studying automation, and after in-depth dialogue, we finally decided to respect his choice."
Born in Jinshan to witness development
As a native of Jinshan, Wu Jiamin has a deep impression of the sea. "When I was a child, I used to go to play, digging sand and catching crabs in the sea breeze, and I felt very happy."
In the blink of an eye, the original seaside has been transformed into today's urban beach, with continuous upgrading of hardware facilities, fireworks shows and other activities, which has become a must-go place for Wu Jiamin to take his children every time he returns to Jinshan. "During the winter and summer vacations, children will go back to Jinshan to live for a period of time, such as the city beach, Jinshanzui fishing village, Huakai Sea Ecological Park, and Langxia Country Park...... He has so many more places to go to play now than I did when I was a kid. ”
Every time he returns to Jinshan, Wu Jiamin can also feel the great changes in his hometown. "I feel that the environment has improved, and the industrial development is getting faster and faster, and I hope that I will have the opportunity to return to Jinshan to carry out academic exchanges and research in the future, and contribute to the development of my hometown."
