According to Thai media news, on May 16, the Wildlife Impact Rescue Center of the Wildlife Conservation Department of Thailand's National Parks revealed that relevant statistics show that the number of wild elephant attacks and deaths in 2024 has reached 30 and 25 people have been injured.
In fiscal year 2023, a total of 22 people were killed and 29 injured. At the same time, since 2012, the total number of injuries and deaths caused by wild elephants has been 228 deaths and 198 injuries. Among them, the largest number of accidents occurred in the forests of the eastern region, with 154 injuries and 121 deaths. As for the most recent wild elephant attack, it occurred on May 15 in Chachoengsao Province, Sanam Chaikhai District.
Thai media said that in recent years, there have been more and more casualties caused by wild elephant attacks on people, and 30 people have been killed in nearly half a year in 2024, the highest record in 12 years.
