May 18 is the 48th International Museum Day. The exhibition "The History of Jijin Casting: Ancient China in Bronze", jointly launched by Sanxingdui Museum and the National Museum of China, was recently unveiled at Sanxingdui Museum, which is also the first special exhibition after the opening of the new Sanxingdui Museum.
Among the more than 160 bronze cultural relics on display, there are 30 groups of first-class cultural relics, including elephant cymbals, albums, heavenly deaths, and Shi Yougui, which were important artifacts of the Shang and Zhou dynasties, as well as the essence of the bronzes newly collected by the National Museum in recent years.
Zhai Shengli, Research Librarian of the National Museum of China: The cultural relics in this exhibition have a long time span, complete categories, rich types, diverse shapes, and heavy objects. This paper systematically sorts out the development context, main characteristics and cultural connotation of ancient Chinese bronzes, and comprehensively presents the scientific, technological, historical and artistic values of bronzes.
The exhibition is divided into five sections: "shape, decoration, inscription, workmanship and rust", mainly showing the style and appearance of different stages of bronze culture, the difference in ornamentation, casting technology, etc., and the audience can also get a close understanding of the original color of bronze and the reasons for different rust colors.
Zhai Shengli, Research Librarian of the National Museum of China: The theme of this exhibition is bronzes, but the content of the exhibition is not limited to the bronzes themselves, but wants to show the very outstanding achievements made in ancient China's history, culture, etiquette system, art, science and technology through bronzes.
In ancient China, bronzes known as "gold" or "jijin" were the most important representative material evidence to reveal the origin, development and prosperity of early Chinese civilization. The National Museum bronze collection on display has a long time span, rich categories, diverse types and large scale, which fully demonstrates the beauty of ancient Chinese bronze relics and systematically sorts out the development process of representative physical evidence of Chinese civilization. The exhibition will last until the end of July and will last for three months.
