Huang Jiguang was born in a small mountain village called Facaiya in Sichuan Province. There is such a local ballad: Fortune is rich, ditch after ditch, landlord is rich and poor people are worried. His father died when he was less than 10 years old. After his father's death, the family's three acres of farmland were also robbed by the landlord. Of the three brothers in the family, his eldest brother was separated and singled, and the second brother was disabled, and he was still young, so the life of the family was becoming more and more poor.
In 1942, there was a great drought in Sichuan, and the family couldn't get by. In order to maintain the family's livelihood, 12-year-old Huang Jiguang went to herd cattle for the landlord's family, but the landlord used the cow dung in the cattle pen to not sweep it clean, and he was deprived of his wages. Later, he was slandered by the village bullies and killed his dog, and asked him to make a dojo for the dog. So Huang Jiguang has been full of hatred for the aggression and oppression of the old society since he was a child.
Later, the People's Liberation Army came, beat local tyrants, and divided the land. Huang Jiguang's life is like the world has turned upside down, and his mood is also like heaven and earth have turned upside down. All this gave him a special affection for the PLA. Since then, whenever a PLA contingent passes by his hometown, 18-year-old Huang Jiguang will always follow at the back of the line and ask to join the army.
In 1950, the propaganda leaflet to resist US aggression and aid Korea spread to Fa Caiya, deep in the mountains. When Zhongjiang County was recruiting new soldiers, Huang Jiguang was the first to sign up.
After Huang Jiguang entered the court, he was assigned to be a correspondent. Like many recruits who have just entered the DPRK, killing the enemy and making meritorious contributions to defending the country has become Huang Jiguang's only belief. In order to get himself into combat mode, he began to use all the time he had to learn everything he could.
In April 1952, Huang Jiguang came to the forward position of Wusheng Mountain with the troops. After coming to the front line, Huang Jiguang, who wanted to take this opportunity to kill the enemy and make contributions, was assigned to the company's logistics. Huang Jiguang, who was anxious to go to the front line to fight, became emotional, and Wu Baosheng, the deputy instructor, saw his emotions and enlightened him: Revolutionary work is a whole, just like a horseshoe watch, and it will not work without a single screw. Now that the war is going on ahead, we must obey the needs of the revolution, and we must be in whatever position we need you in.
After that, Huang Jiguang brought his passion for fighting to the company's logistics work. Cook, hygienist, stretcher, transporter, propagandist, telephoneman, communicator, ordnance worker, all the work he rushed to do. Later, the higher authorities issued a campaign to work hard to dig tunnels and carry out cold guns and cold guns. He not only helped his company dig tunnels, but when he was free, he also ran to the company next to him to help dig tunnels.
The letters of thanks from the other companies were handed to the commander of the sixth company.
During this period, a film reflecting the Great Patriotic War of the Soviet Union caused a strong response among the commanders and fighters of the Volunteer Army, and also caused Huang Jiguang to be greatly touched.
The film, called "Ordinary Soldier", tells the story of a soldier named Matlosov who blocks the hole of a gun with his chest in order to win in the war. The film was particularly popular with the troops, as it required a small amount of playback equipment, so it could be played on a loop in the tunnels of the various companies.
In August, Huang Jiguang was very fascinated when he saw this movie for the first time in the tunnel, especially when he saw the scene of Matlosov's dedication at the end, he was very excited. Whenever other tunnels continue to screen "Ordinary Soldier", Huang Jiguang will take the time to watch it, and watch it at least 4 times before and after.
Huang Jiguang is very clever, and his performance is seen by leaders at all levels. Due to his outstanding performance, on October 6, Huang Jiguang was transferred by the company to the front-line battalion headquarters as a communicator, which made him feel closer to killing the enemy.
On October 14, 1952, the Battle of Shangganling began. Wusheng Mountain, where the Shangganling position is located, is the last barrier of the Volunteer Army's position, and its geographical location is extremely important. If the Wusheng Mountain is lost, the Volunteer Army will be in no danger within 200 kilometers. Therefore, the two main peak positions of Shangganling, 537.7 and 597.9, have become the targets of repeated contention between the warring parties.
During the first seven days of the campaign, the fighting was very fierce, the positions were repeatedly contested, and the combat attrition of the troops was very serious. On the night of October 19, Huang Jiguang's 2nd Battalion was ordered to counterattack the surface position of the 597.9 heights. Under the cover of artillery fire, the counterattacking force conquered 3 positions in a row, but when it reached position 0, it was frantically blocked by the enemy and could not advance for a long time.
The geographical location of Position 0 is peculiar, it is a steep slope more than 100 meters high, and the enemy has set up several chain forts on it. The company organized 3 blasts in a row, all of which were unsuccessful. If the bunker cannot be uprooted before the large force charges, it will be difficult to predict the outcome of the subsequent battle.
At this moment, Huang Jiguang, who came to the forward position, took the initiative to ask the company commander to go to blast. The company commander arranged for two other soldiers to go with him to complete the task, and Huang Jiguang served as the squad leader.
Huang Jiguang and two fighters alternately covered the blasting and quickly blew up 3 small bunkers. When only the last bunker remained, one comrade was shot and died, and the other comrade was also seriously wounded and incapacitated. Huang Jiguang was also injured in many places at this time, especially his left leg was bitten by the enemy's machine gun a few times, and it was about to break. But he still crawled slowly and hard towards the big bunker,
At a distance of 10 meters from the bunker, the machine gun erected by instructor Feng Yuqing spewed out tongues of fire, and Huang Jiguang took the opportunity to throw a grenade. With a bang, Huang Jiguang was knocked unconscious by the blast wave. At this time, the follow-up troops in the back had already come up, and the sound of their comrades rushing and killing could already be heard.
But the machine gun in the bunker rang out again, Huang Jiguang came to his senses, and he turned around to see his comrades rushing up behind him, all of whom fell under the enemy's guns. Perhaps he was reminded of Matlosov in the movie, who, with the last of his strength, jumped into the firing port of the enemy bunker.
The machine gun was dumbfounded, and the follow-up troops followed the road that Huang Jiguang crawled on, and soon occupied the No. 0 position, until the end of the Shangganling Battle, this position was never occupied by the enemy again

The 15th Army is Huang Jiguang's unit. Because of its tenacious fighting style on the Shangganling battlefield, the 15 th Army became a terrifying trump card unit that attracted the attention of the world. And Huang Jiguang's name has written the most colorful stroke for this army. To this day, in the barracks of the army to which Huang Jiguang originally belonged, his bed is still reserved for the hero.
But it is a pity that Huang Jiguang, who has been poor since he was a child, has never taken a portrait, so when promoting heroic deeds, he can only replace it with a sketch painting of sacrificing himself to block the gun's eye. But this will not affect or even change the reverence and nostalgia for heroes in people's hearts, affecting generations of people.
