The four giants of the heavy truck industry
The top 4 brands in the field of heavy trucks in mainland China have long been controlled by China National Heavy Duty Truck, FAW Jiefang, Dongfeng Heavy Truck and Shaanxi Automobile Heavy Truck. The first four months of 2024 are no exception, but the rankings are different from those for the whole of 2023.
(1) China National Heavy Duty Truck (99,900 units)
China National Heavy Duty Truck Group from Shandong Province, a major commercial vehicle manufacturing province, sold a total of 99,986 heavy-duty trucks in the first four months of 2024, ranking first in the industry. The excellent sales data of nearly 100,000 units also made this heavy truck brand from Jinan, Shandong Province, have a market share of 28% in the domestic heavy truck market, an increase of nearly 1 percentage point over the previous year.
(2) FAW Jiefang (77,200 units)
From January to April, the heavy-duty truck brand that ranked second in the industry's sales volume was Jiefang Heavy Truck from China FAW. This heavy truck brand, which originated in Changchun City, Jilin Province, Northeast China, has become the second place in the heavy truck market with a market share of nearly 22% with a market share of nearly 22% with a score of 77,268 vehicles, second only to China National Heavy Duty Truck Group.
(3) Dongfeng Heavy Truck (61,700 units)

(4) Shaanxi Automobile Heavy Truck (53,000 units)
Shaanxi Automobile Heavy Truck from Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, also has 53,419 units from January to April 2024, making it the fourth car company in the industry to sell more than 50,000 units in the first four months. However, compared with ranking third in the country in 2023, Shaanxi Automobile's position is surpassed by Dongfeng Heavy Truck.
Foton heavy truck ranks 5th in the industry
Foton heavy trucks from BAIC Group have always had a big gap with the sales of the four giants in the industry. However, the sales volume of Foton heavy trucks is much higher than that of other brands in the industry.
(5) Foton Heavy Truck (26185 units)
From January to April 2024, the sales volume of Foton heavy trucks reached 26,185 units, ranking 5th in the industry. However, in 2024, Foton heavy truck is one of the few heavy truck brands in the industry with declining sales, down 23% compared with the same period last year, with a market share of 7.4%.
Car companies with sales of 5,000+ units from January to April
From January to April 2024, there are 3 car companies in the domestic heavy truck market with sales of more than 5,000 vehicles, and their strength in the industry should not be underestimated.
(6) Dayun heavy truck (8340 units)
From January to April 2024, Dayun Automobile, a heavy truck brand from Shanxi, sold 8,340 heavy trucks, ranking 6th in the industry. Different from the above-mentioned heavy truck brands, Dayun Heavy Truck is a private enterprise and the only private heavy truck brand that can enter the top 10 in the industry.
(7) XCMG heavy trucks (5980 units)
XCMG heavy trucks from Xuzhou City, Jiangsu Province, completed 5,980 units in the first four months of 2024, ranking 7th in the industry. XCMG heavy truck, formerly known as Chunlan Automobile, now belongs to XCMG Group, which ranks first in the industry in the field of new energy heavy trucks.
(8) JAC heavy trucks (5,382 units)
JAC heavy-duty trucks from Anhui Province, the mainland's third-largest automobile-producing province, sold 5,382 units in the first four months of 2024, also exceeding 5,000 units. It is worth mentioning that JAC, like Foton heavy trucks, has also seen a significant decline in sales compared with the same period last year, down nearly 17%.

In the first four months of 2024, Beiben Heavy Truck, a subsidiary of China North Industries Group, ranked 9th in the industry with 3,701 vehicles. Beiben heavy truck is an old heavy truck brand developed by the mainland by introducing the heavy truck technology of Daimler-Benz in Germany, but the scenery is far less than before.
(10) SAIC Hongyan (2887 units)
SAIC Hongyan, a veteran heavy-duty truck company from Chongqing, achieved sales of 2,887 vehicles from January to April 2024, ranking 10th in the industry. Hongyan heavy truck has the technical foundation of the original China National Heavy Duty Truck Steyr, and integrates the technology of SAIC Iveco heavy truck, but the overall performance is not only satisfactory.
