On the afternoon of May 14, two teachers from an elementary school in Hekou County found an "uninvited guest" who looked like a lizard on campus. After receiving the news, the staff of the Wildlife Protection Station of the County Forestry and Grassland Bureau quickly rushed to the scene, and it was identified as a national first-class protected animal, the round-nosed monitor lizard, and the staff immediately properly transferred and protected the round-nosed monitor lizard. Upon examination, the round-nosed monitor lizard had no obvious external injuries and was in good spirits. Subsequently, the staff took the round-nosed monitor lizard to a suitable nature reserve for release.

The round-nosed monitor lizard is a national first-class protected wild animal in the mainland, belonging to the lizard order monitor reptiles, inhabiting near the streams in the mountains or coastal estuaries, mountain ponds, reservoirs and other places, mainly distributed in South Asia and Southeast Asia, Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Yunnan and other places in the mainland. The round-nosed monitor lizard is generally 1 to 2 meters long and can weigh 20 to 30 kilograms, because of the yellow markings on its body, it is also known as the "five-clawed golden dragon", and its lifespan can reach 150 years.
