Recently, as the person in charge of the first "Good Chinese People" studio in Shaoyang City, Liao Zhenfei, a "Good Chinese Man", explained the relevant precautions to the volunteers participating in voluntary blood donation in the studio.
On March 5, 2024, the studio of Liao Zhenfei, a "good Chinese person" from Dongkou County, Shaoyang City, was inaugurated in the county People's Hospital, which is also the first "good Chinese person" studio in Shaoyang City.
Liao Zhenfei is thin and small, but he likes to do "chivalrous" things since he was a child. In 2007, when he was working at a construction site in Lengshuijiang, he heard that a blood donation vehicle had come to the neighborhood and called on everyone to donate blood voluntarily, so he rolled up his sleeves and went on.
"When I heard about blood donation, I thought it was very difficult, but one day when I had the opportunity to do it, I thought I would try it, and maybe I could help someone." That time, with a few workers, Liao Zhenfei got on the blood collection vehicle.
"I'm not tall, and my body doesn't look strong enough, but I love to move, my body is strong, and I have hardly had an injection since I was a child, but I am still a little afraid to see such a thick needle for the first time when I donate blood!" Speaking of the first blood donation experience, Liao Zhenfei still had "palpitations", but it was this attempt that made him an indissoluble bond with voluntary blood donation.
"After donating blood, I was told that I was RH-negative, and I had no idea about the concept at the time." The first time he donated blood, Liao Zhenfei was detected to be a precious and rare blood type RH-negative blood, commonly known as "panda blood". Under the patient explanation of the staff, Liao Zhenfei understood his particularity and the preciousness of the blood on his body. Since then, Liao Zhenfei has been "out of control" on the chivalrous road of voluntary blood donation. With more and more blood donations, he was gradually pushed into the spotlight by the media, and his story was reported by CCTV, People's Daily and Guangming.com, and received countless likes on the Internet, and Liao Zhenfei was affectionately called "Panda Hero" by netizens.
Liao Zhenfei lost his father when he was 8 years old, and his mother is a first-class severely deaf-mute disabled person. The misfortune of his childhood made his growth experience more tempered and bumpy, and because of such a special family environment, he received more loving support from all walks of life in the process of growing up.
"The east family gives some rice, the west family gives some meat, and the neighbors are all very good, and they often do this during the Chinese New Year when I was a child." After becoming an adult, the scene of receiving help when he was a child is still deeply engraved in Liao Zhenfei's mind, which has become a huge motivation for him to give back to society.
For more than ten years, Liao Zhenfei insisted on donating blood without expecting anything in return, and sometimes even had to pay the fare himself, but he never regretted it, and relatives and friends also advised him to "stop in moderation" and "do what he can". But as soon as he thought that every blood he donated could save a fresh life, Liao Zhenfei walked into the blood station again and again without hesitation.
In recent years, as the mother has grown older and the child has grown up, the family's various expenses have increased day by day. Because the elderly and children have to be taken care of, he can only do odd jobs in the surrounding area, and they are all heavy physical work.
"Donating blood like this often should be harmful to the body, and we often persuade him to do good things once or twice, don't work so hard." On the construction site, the enthusiastic and cheerful Liao Zhenfei is always the object of special care for everyone, and in the face of the concern of the workers, Liao Zhenfei also explained to everyone again and again that scientific blood donation is not harmful to the body. Therefore, he led many people around him to join the team of voluntary blood donation.
"Brother Liao, I'm sorry, I'm bothering you so late, but the situation is really urgent, there is an RH negative blood patient who urgently needs blood, the blood station stock is not enough, you want to save your life, you see......" One night in 2017, Liao Zhenfei was just about to lie down, and he received a call from the blood station in the city center.
"Then what else to see, I'll come right over." As soon as he heard that it was a life-saving thing, Liao Zhenfei agreed without thinking, and when he took a taxi to the blood station in the city center, it was already more than eleven o'clock in the evening, and before he had time to say more, Liao Zhenfei lay on the blood donation table.
A few days later, the blood station in the city center called, saying that the patient had repeatedly inquired and wanted to thank Liao Zhenfei in person and thank him for helping him in times of crisis. For Liao Zhenfei, there were too many such experiences, and he politely declined the kindness.
Finally, the central blood station was entrusted by the patient to send a pennant to Liao Zhenfei's home, and after receiving the pennant, Liao Zhenfei also asked the central blood station to convey that he hoped that after the patient recovered, if conditions permitted, he could also become a blood donation volunteer. Later, the central blood station also gave feedback on the situation, saying that many patients with this rare blood type eventually became "frequent visitors" of the central blood station to volunteer to donate blood, including those who Liao Zhenfei had helped.
On June 28, 2022, Liao Zhenfei dialed Director Li of the downtown blood station and took the initiative to report that he wanted to donate blood on his birthday on July 1.
"Isn't your birthday on July 7th?" Director Li was confused. He is very familiar with Liao Zhenfei's birthday, because every year on this day, he has to call Liao Zhenfei to congratulate his birthday.
"Hehe, political birthday, political birthday." Liao Zhenfei hurriedly explained.
"Oh, yes, yes, yes, you see my memory, I'll arrange it for you right away." Director Li was once again infected by Liao Zhenfei's persistence. And such an arrangement will be held every year on the eve of "July 1st".
However, the chivalrous deeds of "Panda Hero" are not limited to this. In 2022, due to a long period of drought and lack of rain, the pressure on fire prevention and extinguishing has increased unprecedentedly. As a party member in the village, Liao Zhenfei took the initiative to sign up for the fire prevention and emergency team. Follow the "two committees" of the village to patrol the mountains and forests during the day, and go into the house at night to publicize. On the afternoon of March 10 of that year, Liao Zhenfei and everyone had just returned to the village committee from patrolling the forest, when they received a notification from the masses that a fire had broken out in the woodland at the entrance of the village. Liao Zhenfei and the village cadres picked up the fire extinguishing equipment and rushed to the area of the incident as soon as possible.
"My eyebrows and hair were burned by the fire, my arms were also cut, and the most important thing was my face, sweat and smoke, all spent, and everyone was looking at me and laughing at the fire!" Thinking of that firefighting experience, Liao Zhenfei looked proud.
Heroes have their own uniqueness of heroes, and so does "Panda Hero" Liao Zhenfei. According to the regulations, blood donation is divided into whole blood donation and component blood, whole blood can only be donated twice a year by each person, and component blood donation can be done once every two weeks. Since 2007, Liao Zhenfei has donated blood 119 times, totaling 46,800 milliliters, which is more than the total blood volume of 10 adults. He also won the National Gold Award for Unpaid Blood Donation twice and the Hunan Provincial Gold Award for Unpaid Blood Donation, and was awarded the "Good Person of Hunan" in 2021, the "Good Person of China" in 2022, and in 2023, he was commended as an "Outstanding Communist Party Member" by the Dongkou County Committee of the Communist Party of China.
