Yin and Yang to Bagua

Tai Chi to Liangyi

At the beginning, there was no up, down, left, right, and chaos, and this state was called "Tai Chi". Tai Chi contains all states, matter, and energy, representing the unknown, representing chaos, and representing harmony.

Then two states are differentiated from Tai Chi, and these two states are called Yin and Yang, which are also called "Liangyi". Yang is represented by a continuous horizontal line, i.e., Yang Yao. Yin is represented by a broken horizontal, i.e., yin.

Basic concepts of I Ching Bagua

Yang is characterized by being upward and positive, while Yin is characterized by being downward and quiet.

Yin and yang represent the two extremes of a certain characteristic and a certain angle of things, such as size, length, number, front and back, high and low, far and near, light and heavy, black and white, cold and heat, positive and negative, beautiful and ugly, good and evil, good and bad, good and evil, rise and fall, advance and retreat, presence and absence, subject and object, clumsy, noble and low, rich and poor, rigid and soft. Everything in the world can be divided into yin and yang. Yin and Yang complement each other, and if there is no Yin, there will be no Yang, just as without ugliness, the world will not have the concept of beauty. Without the hardness of steel, the world would not have the concept of soft soil. As the Tao Te Ching says:

Therefore, there is no mutual birth, difficulty and ease are mutually compatible, the length is dwarfed, the high and the low are inclined to each other, the sound is harmonious, and the front and back are with each other.

Two to four elephants

Yin and yang are not static, and the two can be transformed into each other.

Basic concepts of I Ching Bagua

Water is seen as weak, but when a flood or tsunami rages, the power of water is unstoppable, and water turns from weak to strong. Iron is considered to be masculine because of its hardness, but if it is too hard, it will have little toughness and be easy to break, and iron will turn from hard to weak.

It can be seen that yin and yang can transform each other, and when a certain state goes to the extreme, it is the time to turn to the opposite of itself, from yin to yang, from yang to yin. Lao Tzu has a saying: "The teeth are not full, but the tongue is still there", which is exactly what he is talking about.

Let's take the critical point of yin-yang transformation as "degree", then if the excessive name is "old", and the appropriate amount is named "less", then yang is divided into "old yang" and "young yang", and yin is divided into "old yin" and "less yin". Old Yang, Young Yang, Old Yin, and Young Yin, the four can be called "four elephants".

Basic concepts of I Ching Bagua

It is also possible to refer to "Lao Yang" as "Sun" and "Lao Yin" as "Tai Yin".

If the four elephants are represented by the diagram, it is:

Yang plus yang, yin plus yin is old, indicating excessive meaning

Yang plus yin, yin plus yang is less, indicating moderation

As I said earlier, as long as the "degree" is exceeded, it will change in the opposite direction, and yin will become yang, and yang will become yin. And because of the transformation, the energy will be dissipated, so the old becomes the young.

Basic concepts of I Ching Bagua

So the old yang will become less yin, and the old yin will become less yang. We can refresh the process a bit:

1. If it is over, it will be unstable, and if it is unstable, it will move: the old yang and the old yin will move.

2. If you move, you will change, and if you change, you will return: Yang will become yin, Yin will become yang, and it will change to the opposite side.

3. If you return, you will be exhausted, and if you are exhausted, you will be quiet: the old yang will become less yin, and the old yin will become less yang.

4. Quiet is long, long is over: Shaoyang continues to grow into old yang, and Shaoyin continues to grow into old yin.

Yin and Yang cycle back and forth between movement and stillness, and the cycle repeats. The four elephants are the evolution of the two instruments, and the two instruments are added to develop into the four images, representing the development.

Four elephants to gossip

Add hexagrams to the four elephants, and the eight trigrams are formed, which are Qian, Dui, Li, Zhen, Xun, Kan, Gen, and Kun.

Basic concepts of I Ching Bagua

Among them, Qiankun, Gendui, Kanli, and Zhenxun, the yin and yang of each of the four pairs of single hexagrams are opposite, which is the meaning of relative, and they are opposite to each other. (The concept of three hexagrams forming a single hexagram and six hexagrams forming a double hexagram is discussed in "A New Interpretation of the I Ching - Overview - Components of the I Ching (1)".) )

Bagua can also represent the eight states, indomitable is dry, all the silence is kun, and the universe is the two extremes. There are all kinds of twists and turns in between. Gossip is already complex enough that it doesn't have to continue to be divided.

Bagua is the evolution of the four elephants, and the hexagram added to the four elephants evolves into Bagua, which represents evolution. The Bagua is combined in pairs to form the sixty-four hexagrams, which symbolize everything.

One is yin and yang, two is four elephants, and three is gossip, and gossip can evolve into everything, which is "two in one life, two in three, and three in everything".

Basic concept of gossip

Gossip has its own symbols. The most basic symbols are:

Dry is the sky, exchange is Ze, separation is fire, and earthquake is thunder

Xun is the wind, Kan is the water, Gen is the mountain, and Kun is the earth

Basic concepts of I Ching Bagua

Dry is the three yangs, the yang is the top, the supremacy is the sky, so the dry is the sky.

Kun is three yin, yin is the bottom, and the bottom is the ground, so the kun is the ground.

Basic concepts of I Ching Bagua

With, the dry is moving, it is the heavens moving, it is the clouds. The clouds are thick and the rain falls, and the country is thousands of miles, so it is Ze. Therefore, the original meaning of exchange should be cloud and ze. It should be emphasized that the clouds here are the clouds of "black clouds crushing the city and wanting to destroy the city", not white clouds.

Departure, moving in the middle of drying, moving in the sky, for the sun. The sun is bright and the fire is bright, so it is fire. Therefore, the original meaning of separation should be sun and fire.

Xun, the movement under the dry, is the movement of the world, for the wind. The wind blows the ground and travels thousands of miles.

Gen, the kun moves above, but the earth moves, for the mountain. The direct meaning of Gen is a protrusion on the ground.

Kan, the kun moves, the ground moves, and it is trapped. The direct meaning of kan is the depression of the ground. Depression water, such as rivers, lakes and seas, are all depression water, so it is water. Therefore, the original meaning of kan should be to sink and water.

Earthquake, the movement under the kun, is the movement of the underground, that is, the earthquake. Shaking corresponds to the thunder in the sky, because in nature, in addition to earthquakes that can make all things vibrate, only thunder can also produce the function of shaking all things. The spring thunder resounded through the world, awakening the hibernating insects, and the insects were revived and stung. Therefore, the original meaning of earthquake is to shake and stun. (Here the sting is directly related to the sting of the solar term, which is the beginning of the month, and the moon is the middle of spring, so the hexagram is also directly related to spring.) This association is directly reflected in the acquired gossip. )

When many people explain gossip, they often mention gossip songs:

Dry three times, Kun six broken

Shake the bowl, cover the bowl

Away from the void, the hurdle is full

Replace the upper shortage, Xun lower break

This song can only assist in memorizing the Bagua hexagram shape, and does not have any function of explaining the true meaning of the Bagua.

----------------------------------------------

Bagua extends the concept

Let's move on to the extended meaning of gossip.

Dry hexagram, all three are yang. Yang is moving, and Sanyang is indomitable, that is, healthy. Non-stop, so dry for horses.

Kun hexagram, the three lines are all yin. Yin is quiet, and the three yin is no contention, that is, shun. Meek and peaceful, so Kun is a cow.

Redeeming the hexagram is the meaning of the cloud and moisturizing things. Run, that is, joy. Take sheep as beauty, so exchange for sheep.

Leaving the hexagram is the sun and the fire, and the meaning of light. Ming, that is, beautiful. The pheasant feathers are gorgeous, so it is separated from the pheasant.

Xun hexagram, for the wind, scattered meaning. Penetrating, that is, entering. The rooster crows oh, and it is pervasive, so Xun is a chicken.

Gen hexagram is a mountain, which means uneven. If you don't move like a mountain, you stop. Raising dogs stops stealing, so Gen is a dog.

Kan hexagram means water, invagination. The ravines are vertical and horizontal, that is, trapped. Pigs roll mud, so Kan is pigs.

Shock hexagram, for thunder, the meaning of vibration. The spring thunder stung, that is, vibrating. The dragon is the worm long, so the earthquake is the dragon.

The above deduction is directly derived from the original meaning of gossip.

The above deduction points to the animals that gossip can refer to, but it is not static. For example, Kan:

There is sub-water in the Kan Palace, so it is not impossible to be a rat.

Kan is water, Kan is fish, or all amphibians and aquatic animals.

Kan Palace corresponds to the female, virtual, and dangerous three-star stay, the female is the female earth bat, the virtual is the virtual day mouse, and the danger is the dangerous moon swallow, so in addition to the mouse, Kan can also refer to bats and swallows.

Regarding the gossip imagery, it must be flexible and changeable, and it can be analyzed in a specific environment. The same is true of the other imagery of the gossip that will be introduced next. If you don't have a flexible mind, you can't learn easily.

Bagua corresponds to body parts

Gossip begins with dry and is the head.

Kun is the earth, containing all things, and is the belly.

The vibration is moving, and the foot does not stop, and it is enough.

Tatsumi is in, and the buttocks are deeply sunken. It is also the wind, and it is naturally the buttocks.

Gen, stop also, stop with the hand, for the hand.

Kan is water, and the ear is water, and it is the ear.

Separation is fire, and the eye is fire, and it is the eye.

Redeem, Yue also, with the reputation of the mouth, for the mouth.

The correspondence between gossip and body parts is also very flexible. Let's take Kan as an example:

In the Liuren, there is Zishui in the Kan Palace, and the Zi corresponds to the Queen of Heaven and the Divine General, so the Kan Palace can symbolize female characteristics.

In Qimen, there is Zishui in the Kan Palace, so the body parts corresponding to Zishui are also a symbol of Kan.

In Taiyi, there are Haishui and Zishui in the Kan Palace, so the body parts corresponding to Haishui are also the symbol of Kan.

According to the correspondence between the innate gossip and the acquired gossip, Kan Palace can also be related to Kun Palace and Dui Palace, so the symbol of Kun Palace and Dui Palace can also be the symbol of Kan.

In fact, different conclusions can be drawn from different angles. Metaphysics, or arithmetic, or easy to learn, is too flexible. But if it is so divergent, why can we locate specific conclusions? In practice, why can we get a clear result through the chaotic handicap? I will give my understanding by discussing the Najia method in the future.

Gossip corresponds to family members

Dry, three yang, must be yang.

Kun, three yin, must be yin.

The three hexagrams of Zhen, Kan and Gen are one of the Kun movements, and the movement is the opposite, and the Kun Yin is the opposite, so the three hexagrams are yang.

Xun, Li, and the three hexagrams are one of the dry hexagrams, and the movement is the opposite, and the dry yang is the opposite, so the three hexagrams are yin.

From another point of view, there are three strokes for Qian, five strokes for Zhen, Kan, and Gen, and the odd number is yang. In the same way, Kun, Xun, Li, and Hui are yin.

Therefore:

Dry, Zhen, Kan, Gen, for Yang, for male

Kun, Xun, Li, Dui, for Yin, for women

Qian, Kun, as the foundation, so as parents.

Earthquake, the beginning of Kun moved, headed by the boy, so he was a boy.

Kan, Kun Zhong Yao moves, is in the middle, so he is a middle man.

Gen, the three pillars of Kun move, are the end, so they are Ji Nan.

Xun, the beginning of the Qian, is the head, so she is the eldest daughter.

Leave, dry in the middle of the move, for the middle, so for the second daughter.

With, the three of the dry moves, for the end, so for the young girl.

Basic concepts of I Ching Bagua

The knowledge that gossip corresponds to family members is extremely important!!

There are extremely important applications in prediction, feng shui, formations, stratagems, the art of war, and spells! Moreover, this knowledge point also occupies an extremely important position in the follow-up deduction of the concept of gossip!

To put it simply, the most important issue in mainland traditional culture is family relationships. In the traditional concept of the mainland, the family is the most basic unit of society, and an individual is only an effective member of society if he is attached to the family. Therefore, in the traditional view, the individual has no value, and the position of the individual in the family is what makes the individual valuable.

Traditional culture, the grand propositions of social issues, political economy, and the state and nation, have been reduced to the family. In other words, to look at and interpret grand propositions from the perspective of the family.

As for the correspondence between gossip and family members, what is the use of it in the number of techniques, I will continue to explain it in a follow-up article. Of course, it is still about the content related to the Najia method, and it is obviously unrealistic to explain it comprehensively.

In addition, in practical application, the application of gossip has many meanings, and it is definitely not covered by the above information. Ten Wings' "Saying Hexagrams" also mentions many symbols of gossip, but the connotation of gossip is far more than the content of "Saying Hexagrams".

And I don't think it's really necessary for beginners to learn the many symbols of Bagua right away, not only to memorize, but also to understand. As you learn more and accumulate slowly, you will naturally be able to learn.

Well, that's the end of this article. The next article will explain the innate gossip and the acquired gossip, and explain how the innate gossip and the acquired gossip came about, welcome everyone to continue to watch, goodbye.
