The reporter learned today from the China South-to-North Water Diversion Group that the first phase of the east-central route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project has transferred a total of 72 billion cubic meters of water, and more than 176 million people in seven provinces and cities along the route have benefited from it.

A total of 64.157 billion cubic meters of water has been diverted from the first phase of the middle route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, exceeding the annual water diversion plan issued by the Ministry of Water Resources for three consecutive years from 2021 to 2023. In particular, during the 2023-2024 glacial water conveyance, 1.69 billion cubic meters of water will be supplied to the route after the digital twin is empowered, which is 340 million cubic meters more than the water supply plan issued by the Ministry of Water Resources in the same period.

The first phase of the eastern route project has pumped more than 40 billion cubic meters of water from the Yangtze River, transferred 7.061 billion cubic meters of water to Shandong, and the emergency water supply project of the northern extension of the eastern route has supplied 786 million cubic meters of water to Hebei and Tianjin, effectively improving the allocation pattern of water resources in the water-receiving areas and greatly alleviating the problem of water shortage in southern and northern Shandong, especially in the Jiaodong Peninsula.
