On May 15, the ignition test of the mainland's first engine vertical high-altitude simulation test bench developed and constructed by the 101 Institute of the Sixth Academy of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation was a complete success, marking the completion of Asia's largest engine vertical high-altitude simulation test bench and its test capability.

The reporter learned from the 101 Institute that the test bench can realize the high-altitude simulation test capability of the engine in a vacuum working environment below the kilopascal level for 1,000 seconds, and has the ability to actively launch the whole process, and the overall comprehensive index has reached the international advanced level.

The completion of the test bench fills the gap of the vertical high-altitude simulation test bench of the continental liquid rocket engine, improves the ability of hydrodynamic test verification, provides an important guarantee for the implementation of major aerospace projects in the mainland as scheduled, and provides important technical support for the subsequent construction of heavy launch vehicle test conditions.

Xia Wei, deputy chief engineer of the 101 institute, said that the main purpose of the test was to assess the characteristics of the test bench. "Aerospace has high quality requirements, in order to be foolproof, before the product is officially tested, the state of the test bench must be assessed in advance to ensure that the test bench is safe and reliable."

The reporter saw at the scene that the rocket engine had been vertically placed into the vacuum chamber on the test bench. According to the on-site testers, during the test, the vacuum system will always maintain a vacuum environment in the cabin. Xia Wei explained that subject to a variety of factors, the previous continental hydrogen and oxygen engine in the field of high-altitude simulation test to the horizontal test bench, the vertical high-altitude simulation test bench built this time compared with the horizontal test bench, can better simulate the engine in the high-altitude working state, can better and more thoroughly assess the engine thrust, structural stability, overall coordination and other parameters, for the development of engines and rockets to provide strong support.

The test bench lasted one year to complete all the construction and commissioning work. In accordance with the high standards of ability and technical level, the project team carried out dozens of plans and technical demonstrations, fully identified the key technologies and development difficulties in the overall construction process of the project, carefully organized and vigorously coordinated, and successfully completed the construction of the test bench. The project has also become the largest construction project, the most technically difficult and the shortest construction period among the 101 test facility construction projects.
