At the end of January 2021, the roads in Shenzhen were covered with fallen leaves.
Industrious sanitation workers are busy from morning to night, but the scattered leaves still stubbornly occupy roads, grass, flowers and trees.
Stepping on the creaking leaves, I couldn't help but look up and trace the source of the leaves falling.
Unfortunately, this is not the north, and the lush branches are still full of green leaves.
This wave of fallen leaves is not the last of this winter.
After the Spring Festival, when the spring wind blows, there will be another time when the leaves fall. At that time, there will be a wind, and you can see a small whirlwind wrapped around the fallen leaves, circling at a low altitude.
As a northerner, every year there is the same problem that haunts my mind.

why do trees in the north fall in the fall, while trees in Shenzhen fall in the spring?

Recently, I have been idly inquiring about the information and finally got a clear answer.
In the north and south, although trees will fall leaves, the reasons for falling leaves are very different.
< h1 class = "pgc-h-arrow-right" >1, northern deciduous leaves

The trees in the north are mostly deciduous trees, that is, the leaves grow from growth to yellowing, and there is only a one-year survival cycle.
Deciduous leaves are the self-protection mechanisms formed by plants in a specific natural environment. It can greatly reduce the evaporation and loss of water in the dry and cold seasons, thereby protecting the main body of the branch through difficult times.
This mechanism of self-protection is very much in line with Darwin's theory of evolution. The most appropriate example is the cactus in the desert. The branches of the cactus are tough and smooth, locking in moisture tightly, while what should have been leaves evolved into fine spines.
It is these fine spines that help the cactus reduce moisture evaporation, reflect external heat, and survive in harsh environments.
< h1 class = "pgc-h-arrow-right" >2, southern deciduous leaves

The trees in the south are mostly evergreen trees. The leaves of evergreen trees generally have a life cycle of 1-5 years. New leaves usually grow in the spring and summer, replacing the old leaves. Evergreen trees shed their leaves throughout the year, and new leaves fall the most when they germinate in spring, unlike deciduous trees, which are concentrated in autumn and winter.
Alternating new leaves and old leaves, rather than actively deciding leaves out of the self-protection mechanism under harsh natural conditions, this is probably the biggest difference between southern tree species and northern tree species.

what happens if you transplant a tree from the north to the south?

Orange is orange in huainan, and orange is orange in huaibei. This little story we all learned when we were reading.
Sweet and juicy orange trees, after transplanting from Huainan to Huaibei, will become sour and difficult to enter. So, what happens if you don't aim at eating, but only for the purpose of survival and habits?

1, Baiju is easy to visit Daelim Temple

In April, the peach blossoms of the mountain temple began to bloom. Long hate spring return nowhere to be found, do not know to turn into this.
Bai Juyi, a great poet of the Tang Dynasty, saw the remnants of spring flowers at the foot of Lushan Mountain, but was pleasantly surprised to find that spring had just arrived.
The same is the peach tree, just because of the temperature difference between the mountain and the mountain, there are different seasonal reactions. Then, if the deciduous trees in the north are planted in the south, there will be different growth conditions.
For example, the season of flowering, the date of fruit, the size of the fruit, the sweetness of the fruit, the date of the fallen leaves, and so on.
< h1 class= "pgc-h-arrow-right" >2, will the leaves fall in the fall?

It is often said that "people move to live, trees move to death", but the current cultivation technology has been very advanced, and it is not a problem to plant northern trees in the south. However, we are curious that when the deciduous tree in the north reaches the south, such as Shenzhen, will it still maintain the habit of deciding leaves in autumn?
< h1 class= "pgc-h-arrow-right" > (1) will fall leaves in the short term

Deciduous trees shed their leaves in order to adapt to the harsh natural environment.
The environment in the south is different from that in the north, when the deciduous trees go to the south, the harsh natural environment disappears, and the tree species will naturally show different growth conditions. Just like the peach blossoms in Lushan Mountain, even if they are at the same latitude, the flowering period of peach trees is different because of the difference in temperature up and down the mountain.
However, nearly 100 million years of genetic evolution cannot be underestimated. Deciduous trees will certainly maintain their innate genes in the short term and continue to fall leaves in the fall.

(2) will not fall leaves in the future

However, plants are more capable of adapting to nature than humans. Changes in temperature, differences in moisture, will quickly change the growth habits of deciduous trees. For example, the defoliation period is shorter, the evergreen period is longer, and so on.
After countless years, the tree species have undergone a new round of "evolution", which will surely change the inherent habit of "autumn leaves" of northern tree species. However, the time required for this evolution is probably not something that one or two generations can intuitively feel.
< h1 class="pgc-h-arrow-right" > concluding remarks

Greenhouse vegetables, we are no strangers. With this technology, even on snowy days, we can still have a very rich variety of leafy greens to eat. This technology allows vegetable seeds to break through the time and geographical restrictions, and when they are planted, they can live, they can live, and they can grow well.
As long as we think of the deciduous trees as vegetables, the humid and hot climate of the south as greenhouses, we can look forward to the time to cast its magic on the deciduous trees, giving them evergreen scenery all year round.
