author:EV Vision

On May 11, the Automotive Technology Research and Test Center of China Insurance Research Institute officially announced the latest test results of the China Insurance Vehicle Safety Index (C-IASI). In this test, FAW-Volkswagen's all-electric flagship sedan, the ID.7 VIZZION, received the highest rating (G) in the three core test items of occupant safety, pedestrian protection outside the vehicle, and vehicle auxiliary safety due to its excellent safety design. MEANWHILE, THE ID.7 VIZZION STOOD OUT AS THE ONLY MODEL IN THIS TEST TO RECEIVE A (A) GOOD RATING IN THE CRASHWORTHINESS AND SERVICEABILITY INDEX.

Excellent Protection: Excellent occupant safety test in the car

In this test, the ID.7 VIZZION received the highest level of excellence (G) for its excellent performance and excellent design in four key categories: 25% frontal offset collision on the driver's side, side impact, roof strength and seat/headrest.

Specifically, in the driver's side frontal 25% offset crash test, the ID.7 VIZZION provided the occupants with a comprehensive and ample living space thanks to its robust crew compartment structure and efficient airbag protection system. The body is made of a mixture of high-strength steel and aluminum, of which hot stamping steel accounts for more than 32%, and high-strength and ultra-high-strength steel accounts for up to 81%, ensuring that the impact force can be effectively absorbed and dispersed in the event of a collision. In addition, the longitudinal member reinforcements, four doors and rear lid are made of aluminium alloy, which not only improves the weight of the body, but also further enhances the torsional rigidity of the body, reaching a high standard of more than 46,100 Nm/deg.

IN THE SIDE IMPACT TEST, THE ID.7 VIZZION ALSO PERFORMED WELL. After the collision, the B-pillar and door structure of the body remained intact, and the distance between the B-pillar and the centerline of the driver's seat reached 250mm, far exceeding the industry standard. THIS IS DUE TO FAW-VOLKSWAGEN'S STRINGENT SAFETY REQUIREMENTS, AS WELL AS THE ADVANCED MATERIALS AND STRUCTURAL DESIGN OF THE ID.7 VIZZION. The vehicle uses 2000MPa ultra-high strength hot-stamping steel floor beams, and hot-stamping steel is used in key parts such as A/B pillars, sill impact beams, etc., to resist strong impact from the side. At the same time, the door sills adopt a unique "sandwich" structure, combining double-layer hot-stamping steel and honeycomb aluminum reinforced beams, which can withstand huge impact forces and ensure the ultimate side safety performance.

IN THE ROOF STRENGTH TEST, THE ID.7 VIZZION ALSO ACHIEVED EXCELLENT RESULTS. Its roof and A-pillar structure are capable of carrying loads of up to 101,642 N, and the roof can carry more than 4.91 times the weight of the body. This means that in extreme situations such as when the vehicle rolls over, the ID.7 VIZZION can effectively prevent the deformation of the passenger compartment, ensure the living space of the occupants in the car, and provide maximum safety for the occupants.

FINALLY, IN THE SEAT/HEADREST TEST, THE ID.7 VIZZION ALSO RECEIVED AN EXCELLENT (G) RATING. The seat design fully considers the principle of ergonomics, and the backrest and headrest shape conform to the curvature of the human spine to provide a comfortable riding experience for the occupants. At the same time, after strict static and dynamic evaluation, the seat can effectively reduce neck injuries in accidents such as rear-end collisions, and provide all-round safety protection for occupants.

Internal and external "repair": people and vehicles travel safely and worry-free

The pedestrian safety index test is a key test to evaluate the ability of a car to protect pedestrians during driving. The purpose of this test is to ensure that the car can minimize the injury to pedestrians in the event of a collision, so as to effectively protect the lives of pedestrians. THE ID.7 VIZZION SCORED AN EXCELLENT SCORE OF NEAR PERFECT IN THIS TEST.

Specifically, the ID.7 VIZZION scored 83 percent in the head, flexible and upper leg tests for pedestrian safety outside the vehicle, far exceeding the standard of 65 percent. This achievement fully demonstrates its excellent pedestrian protection capabilities. In addition, the ID.7 VIZZION is equipped with an active pop-up hood to provide more room for head collision and effectively reduce pedestrian damage. At the same time, the ID.7 VIZZION received a perfect score in both types of leg tests, providing a higher guarantee for pedestrian safety.

Intelligent driving guard: The scoring rate is as high as 99.4%, and the vehicle auxiliary safety is almost perfect

As a core indicator to measure the degree of vehicle intelligence, the vehicle assistance safety index not only meets the high standard requirements of consumers for safety performance, but also demonstrates the advanced technical strength contained in the vehicle. The ID.7 VIZZION received the highest rating (G) for its outstanding performance. Specifically, the car achieved perfect marks for the Pedestrian and Cyclist Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB VRU) and Lane Assist (LSS) systems, while the Vehicle-to-Ride Emergency Braking System (AEB C2C) also showed excellent performance with near-perfect scores.

In addition, all ID.7 VIZZION models are equipped with the All-Journey Intelligent Driver Assistance System 3.0, which not only fully meets the needs of users in various scenarios such as urban and highway driving, but also effectively identifies and avoids potential risks, thereby significantly improving driving safety.

All Guardians: ID. Family Security Test Grand Slam

FAW-Volkswagen's vehicle safety requirements have been raised to unusually strict standards. In the passive safety development of the ID.7 VIZZION, we invested a total of 32 test vehicles, which underwent six rounds of simulation tests, four rounds of crash tests and up to 73 crash tests, just to ensure that the user does not become a potential risk under any circumstances. Although the national standard stipulates that the safe impact speed of passenger cars in rear collision is 50 km/h, FAW-Volkswagen not only meets this standard, but also raises the safety standard to 80 km/h to ensure higher safety guarantees.

There are no shortcuts to safety, and we insist on accumulating experience and data through a large number of test vehicles, multiple crash tests and iterations. The marks, dents, curves and values left behind by every collision are the solid support of our safety performance. On the basis of meeting the CNCAP and C-IASI standards, we have established a set of more stringent FAW-Volkswagen safety standards.

As a pure electric flagship sedan with "safety" as its core concept, the ID.7 VIZZION not only received an excellent evaluation in this C-IASI safety test, but also won the title of "Best Safety Car" in the "4th China Automobile Festival". At the same time, as another product of FAW-Volkswagen's ID. family, the ID.6 CROZZ also achieved an excellent result of "excellent safety test and zero crash score" in the 2023 C-IASI test, further verifying the excellent performance of the ID. family in terms of safety performance.

As a global model, the Volkswagen ID. family has also won many awards around the world, including the North American IIHS test excellent evaluation, the US NHTSA test 5-star evaluation and the European E-NCAP test 5-star evaluation, successfully achieved the safety test "grand slam" in China, the United States and Europe, the three major automotive markets, demonstrating its excellent safety performance and quality.
