Brazil's Igor won the Senior Championship
Igor defeated Doherty 5-2 to win the Senior World Championship for the first time.
The victory marked the biggest success of the 46-year-old's career, as he became the first player to win the prestigious Senior World Championship from outside Europe, earning a £20,000 winner's prize and a £2,000 first-round prize for the Champion of Champions.
For Doherty, the wait for a unique 'Grand Slam' continues, as the Irish former world professional, world amateur and under-21 world champion still fails to win the Senior Championship.
Figueiredo qualified because he was undoubtedly the undisputed champion, having beaten World Seniors champion Davidson, four-time defending champion Jimmy White and Tony Dragao along the way to just four games before beating 1997 world champion Doherty.
The "darling of Berlin" showed his grit and determination as he reached the final, coming from behind against Krinis and Pumjahn before winning 4-1 over Pinches in the semi-finals. He got off to a fantastic start on Sunday afternoon and also scored a 100 in a single stroke.
The Brazilian veteran ended the semi-finals with back-to-back 100-break performances and continued to show his scoring prowess, hitting 72 and 93 breaks at halftime to take a 3-1 lead.
There was a potential turning point in the fifth game, when Figueiredo wanted to clear the table but missed the green ball to interrupt and give Doherty a chance to turn the tables. However, the Irish veteran was unable to capitalise on the opportunity as he was too nervous to pose a threat to his Brazilian rival and put him one step away from victory.
Doherty briefly hit his opponent in a powerful way with two 50+ shots in the sixth game to make it 2-4, but it was too late, and Figueiredo immediately responded with a single shot of 88 points in front of the cheering Crucible crowd.
