author:Academic circles

According to the CCTV report, recently, Qin, a teacher at the School of Surveying and Mapping Science and Technology of Xi'an University of Science and Technology, reported that in January this year, after the final results of the course he took came out, the parents of a student with unqualified grades asked the teacher to revise the student's grades on the grounds of "affecting the child's future" and "causing stains", and verbally threatened the teacher. The relevant personnel of the college also mentioned many times that the parent "has a background" and is a member of the academician team of a research institute. Ask the teacher to revise the grade.

After Ms. Qin refused, the parents of the students came to the school to report Ms. Qin's teaching problems, and for this reason, the school's academic affairs office issued a special letter to investigate the incident.

After the investigation, Mr. Qin had no problems. Finally, in a make-up examination, the above-mentioned students passed the make-up examination.

The incident quickly caused heated discussions, and the students' grades were distributed according to the trouble? Capable parents "meddle" in college education? The seriousness and fairness of the examinations, as well as the dignity of higher education that teachers abide by, have all entered the public eye.

Grades are distributed according to trouble?

In fact, there are a lot of such students threatening teachers to change their grades... And there are both at home and abroad, and even worse, there are threats of suicide.

The most basic thing in changing grades is to first euphemistically "plead with the teacher to raise the score". On a certain platform, similar questions emerge one after another.

It was supposed to be as many grades as it could have been in the exam, but there was a hidden path that could get high scores as long as you intercede with the teacher and have a good relationship.

Some students choose to "intercede", while others are more radical and choose to threaten.

In the early years, Mr. Li's diary entitled "I Called the Police Today" from Hohai University caused heated discussions on the Internet. Teacher Li said that he received a text message from students threatening to increase his course score from more than 60 to 90 points, or he would retaliate.

Mr. Li teaches surveying courses at the school. After the exam, she had just finished grading and submitting the grades to the students she had taught last semester when she received a text message from an unfamiliar number, complaining that she had scored low and cursing her family.

In the afternoon of the same day, she received an anonymous phone call from a student asking why "the score is so low". Ignoring the student's request for a score increase, Ms. Li repeatedly received threatening text messages saying that if she did not raise her score from more than 60 to 90, she would retaliate against her or her son. Mr. Li chose to call the police.

Finally, Ms. Li said that the student who threatened her had apologized to her in the form of text messages and promised that she would not pose a threat to her or her family.

Not only at home, but also abroad, a Greek media reported that in 2023, a Greek university professor was kidnapped by students and blackmailed her to revise her grades because of the low pass rate of the exam.

The incident took place at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. A professor at the university's psychology department said in an interview with Greek media that on the 17th, she was locked in an office for three hours by students and threatened by students who took the exam to re-mark the paper so that more students who participated in the exam could pass.

The school's department head lamented that students now routinely "interrupt the pace of instruction, talk about their positions, and then physically attack teachers." The behavior of such a small group of cancers destroying university education is infuriating, frightening and disgusting."

In addition to these, there are also students who threaten to "jump off the building" and ask the teacher to revise their grades.

Teacher Qin said that in the make-up examination, there was also a senior student who failed the make-up examination, and the student directly threatened to jump off the building and asked the teacher to revise the grades. However, in the end, the student's make-up test score was still registered as 60 points.

Running points to score

Why is it getting worse?

Teacher Zhu of a university of science and technology in Nanjing revealed that "running scores to score" has become a kind of atmosphere in some colleges and universities, and at the end of each semester exam, the marking teacher will receive a similar call, and most of the greetings are colleagues, leaders and students. ”

Xiao Wang, a college student at a university in Beijing, told reporters that the phenomenon of "running scores to score" has now formed a trend in some schools, and you can get high scores by asking for mercy and looking for relationships, which is very unfair to rigorous and honest students. Over time, more and more students will abandon integrity.

Some teachers who are "unwilling to violate their conscience" and "easy to be soft-hearted" often choose to "pull up" the grades of all students, which seems to be very happy, but the resulting inflated overall scores cause greater injustice.

The root cause of these phenomena is that some students do not go to university to pursue the ideal value of knowledge and independence, but to obtain a diploma as a stepping stone to employment. In this way, it is easy for students to add factors such as "relationship" and "affection" to grades that should only be linked to "academics".

There are also many students who bluntly said: "As long as the score is low, I will go to the teacher for various reasons, and I can do everything to protect my research and go abroad." ”

How is test fairness maintained? This has made more people start to reflect. However, it is certain that the score is determined according to the actual learning situation of the student, and fair and objective scoring is the most basic academic ethics of the teacher, and it should never be changed because of the student's "plea". As for threatening teachers in order to get high grades, it should be even more undeserved!!
