Lamborghini Historical Model (XIII), Lamborghini Miura P400 Roadster

author:Famous car appreciation

This car is the only factory-built Roadster model (convertible) in the Lamborghini Miura range. It was specially created by Marcello Gandini and Bertone for the Geneva Motor Show in 1968. The car (chassis number ZN 75) is more than simply removing the roof, it is very different in design from the production Miura.

At the show, the Roadster had larger air intakes and a lower roll cage that set it apart from the rest of the Miura. In addition, it comes with different taillights and a larger spoiler. In order to cope with the additional load brought by the convertible design, the chassis structure of this car has also been strengthened.

After the show, ILZRO, a consortium of lead and zinc producers, bought the car, intending to use it as a tool to promote its own brand, linking ILZRO to the high-performance image of the Miura. ILZRO made a number of modifications to the car with the help of Bertone and Lamborghini, which cost the company $200,000 in 1968, the equivalent of millions of dollars today.

The main part of the modification is to replace many details with chrome zinc replacements, such as wheels, steering wheels, side trims, wheel trims, etc., which demonstrate the craftsmanship of the ILZRO. What's more, the mechanical parts of this car are also made of a lot of zinc, such as the exhaust system, valve covers, water pump housings, radiators, oil pump housings, transmission covers and carburetors, etc.

Finally, ILZRO asked Bertone to design a new grille, chrome body trim and side skirts for the car. Before these parts were installed, the body was painted with a metallic green coating.

The only Miura convertible, which was auctioned at the Monterrey sports car auction in 2002, ended up failing to reach its reserve price. The car is estimated to be between $350,000 and $450,000.
