Editor's note: This article is a reflection on the study and practice of the 13th Grand Diplomacy Youth Development and Practice Navigation Project Class of the Grand Diplomacy Youth Think Tank (GDYT).

Unfortunately, due to work reasons, I passed by the scientific research report held by the Institute of Belt and Road and Global Governance of Fudan University. However, I feel that this event is of great significance and far-reaching impact. Through this topic, I also refer to some literature to talk about my own superficial understanding of China's "One Belt, One Road" under the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

1. Recognition of the strategic importance of the Belt and Road Initiative

In the context of global economic, political and social changes, the Belt and Road Initiative has become an important bridge connecting the world with its unique charm and far-reaching influence. The Belt and Road Initiative is not only a bridge for economic cooperation, but also a link for cultural exchanges and people-to-people bonds. It has promoted the economic development of countries along the Belt and Road, improved people's livelihood and well-being, and promoted the improvement of the global governance system.

The strategic significance and advantages of the Belt and Road Initiative are mainly reflected in the following aspects:

The first is to promote economic globalization. The Belt and Road Initiative promotes trade and investment liberalization and facilitation by strengthening economic cooperation among countries along the Belt and Road, which will help promote the process of economic globalization. This will not only improve the level of economic development of the participating countries, but also help to promote the growth and prosperity of the global economy.

Second, international cooperation should be strengthened. The initiative emphasizes the principle of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, and encourages countries along the Belt and Road to strengthen cooperation in the fields of policy, facilities, trade and finance, and jointly address global challenges and issues. This mode of cooperation will help enhance the cohesion and stability of the international community and promote world peace and development.

The third is to promote China's own development. The implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative will also contribute to China's own economic development and social progress. By participating in international cooperation and exchanges, China can further expand its markets and sources of resources, and promote industrial upgrading and innovative development. At the same time, it will also promote the formation of friendly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation between China and other countries in the world. The interdependence of countries is deepening. In this case, the openness, inclusiveness, mutual benefit and win-win situation proposed by the Belt and Road Initiative will help improve the efficiency and effectiveness of project construction, and can also promote the cooperation and development of countries along the Belt and Road in the field of digital economy.

2. The impact of the Russia-Ukraine conflict on China's Belt and Road Initiative

The mainland is currently undergoing major changes unseen in a century, and the Belt and Road Initiative is also facing many challenges in the face of a complex international environment and a volatile geopolitical situation. In particular, the situation of the Russia-Ukraine conflict is uncertain, and how to balance the interests of all parties, how to ensure the sustainable development of the project, and how to prevent and respond to various risks are all practical problems in front of us.

First, the Russia-Ukraine conflict has exacerbated international political and economic complexities, increasing the risks and challenges for China to advance the Belt and Road Initiative. In this context, China needs to be more cautious in its relations with countries along the Belt and Road, and strengthen risk assessment and early warning mechanisms to ensure the security and stability of Belt and Road projects.

Second, the Russia-Ukraine conflict could have an impact on China's energy security and economic interests. If the conflict continues to escalate, it could lead to further tensions in the region, affecting China's energy supply and trade. Therefore, China needs to strengthen communication and cooperation with other countries to jointly maintain regional peace and stability.

Finally, the Russia-Ukraine conflict may cause China's various projects abroad to be attacked by war, causing us explicit and implicit direct economic losses, which is not conducive to the protection of our Chinese's property and the happiness of our Chinese people.

3. Under the premise of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, how can we continue to adhere to and develop the Belt and Road Initiative?

Although the Russia-Ukraine conflict has a certain impact on China's economic development, it should be pointed out that China and Russia have always maintained close cooperative relations, and the two sides have extensive common interests in the fields of economy, trade, energy and so on. Therefore, in response to the challenges brought about by the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the two sides can strengthen coordination and cooperation to jointly promote the in-depth implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative.

The specific idea is as follows:

China has always adhered to a foreign policy of peace, development, cooperation and win-win results, and is committed to building a community with a shared future for mankind. In handling international relations, China has always adhered to the principles of equality, mutual benefit and win-win cooperation, respected the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries, and did not interfere in the internal affairs of other countries. Therefore, in the process of promoting the Belt and Road Initiative, China will always follow these principles, strengthen communication and cooperation with other countries, and jointly address various risks and challenges.

In the context of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, China can jointly maintain regional peace and stability by strengthening communication and cooperation with other countries. At the same time, China can continue to promote the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative and strengthen economic cooperation and development with countries along the route.

First, China can actively participate in the mediation and mediation of the international community and play a constructive role in promoting the political settlement of the crisis. We will express China's position and concerns to all parties concerned through diplomatic channels, and call on all parties to remain calm and exercise restraint and resolve the issue through dialogue and consultation.

Second, China can continue to promote the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative. The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is an open, inclusive, mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation platform that aims to promote economic prosperity and regional cooperation among countries along the Belt and Road. Under this framework, China can carry out extensive economic and trade cooperation and exchanges with countries along the Belt and Road, and promote the implementation of projects in the fields of infrastructure construction and production capacity cooperation. This will help promote regional economic development and prosperity and enhance mutual trust and willingness to cooperate among countries.

Third, China can also respond to external challenges and pressures by strengthening its own development and reforms. This includes accelerating economic transformation and upgrading, improving the ability of scientific and technological innovation, and deepening reform and opening up. Through the implementation of these measures, China can enhance its comprehensive national strength and international influence, and better respond to various risks and challenges.

Thanks to the teachers for providing us with enough good learning opportunities, and also allowing me to think deeply and connect. At the same time, I am aware that my knowledge of global governance needs to be improved. In the future, I will pay more attention to the international situation and the dynamics of global governance, strengthen my study and thinking, and strive to improve my overall quality and ability.
