The new Strada Italia is another addition to the 3T made-in-Italy range, a new generation of aerodynamic road bikes that can be comfortably designed for everyday riding.

The original 3T Strada made a splash with its single-disc confinement and unusual frame shape. In the end, it was really unbearable to be limited to a single disc, and a double-disc frame was added in the middle of the year. The 22T Strada ICR launched in '3 was arguably a more traditional design, with a dual-disc drivetrain and 30mm tire clearance, and a fully integrated cable routing system instead.

The 3T Strada Italia has a lot in common with its predecessor, continuing to balance comfort and performance. But the frame geometry has been tweaked and optimized for the 35mm-wide tires. It also uses SRAM's UDH system.

The Strada Italia, like the 3T's Racemax Italia and Extrema Italia, is produced at the Bergamo plant. According to 3T, the new Strada Italia "uses the same winding and RTM technology as the rest of the frames, which allows 3T to move most of its production back to Italy." RTM technology gives 3T's engineers "full control over the carbon fiber lamination process".

3T claims that this will improve the user's riding experience in three ways: responsiveness, handling and comfort.

When it comes to responsiveness, 3T says its engineering allows the frame to "give you the feedback you need when you want to get up to speed." The 3T also says that the short 408mm chainstays provide the feel of a competition model.

The Strada Italia's torsional stiffness and compliance are said to help maximize the bike's precision in cornering, which 3T says helps boost user confidence, especially on challenging downhills.

Despite being responsive and manoeuvrable, the 3T says the cascading of the risers has been improved to ensure comfort. This new bike is both suitable for professional riders and comfortable enough for everyday riding.

According to 3T, the biggest change to improve comfort is the curved aerodynamic cut-out shape of the riser, which is said to allow the frame to "have vertical compliance without compromising delivery."

Like the Strada ICR before it, the Strada Italia is unique in that it focuses on both comfort and aerodynamic efficiency. According to 3T, its carbon fiber technology helps balance the frame's aerodynamics and comfort. But 3T also says the new car's geometry ensures the user is in an optimal aerodynamic position while maximizing performance.

Comparing the geometry of the 3T Strada ICR and Strada Italia, it can be seen that for a 56cm frame, the new car has a 5mm reduction in Reach and a 9mm increase in stack height. This will allow the user to stand more upright and comfortable. At the same time, the head tube angle is also slightly reduced, which may result in a more stable ride.

While a more comfortable posture may seem at odds with aerodynamics, 3T says: "If the user can't maintain an aerodynamic position, then the pneumatic car is useless." ”

Therefore, 3T believes that the choice and adjustability of the handlebar is very important. For this purpose, they equipped the entire vehicle with a split handlebar to improve the selection surface, while also enabling internal cable routing.

Elsewhere, the 3T takes full advantage of the new UCI regulations with a "wide and narrow" head tube to maximise aerodynamic efficiency. The chunky reducer down tube also provides shade for the kettle.

The other two designs of the new Strada Italia can be said to follow the trend.

The tire clearance of the new car has been optimised to 35 mm. Wide tires are a trend in road design, and some of the best aero road bikes have tire clearances almost on par with the 3T Strada Italia. For example, the Cervélo S5 and Soloist can support tires up to 34 mm wide.

With the new car featuring the SRAM UDH tail hook, the 3T is arguably betting on what they see as the direction of road car technology. While SRAM UDH is common on mountain bikes and some gravels, it's not as common on road bikes.

3T claims that its Italian-made frame has a "window of soul." To put it bluntly, the carbon pattern can be seen in the downtube logo. Strada Italia also has a Project X frame that is painted in bare carbon so you can see the full carbon pattern.
