Lin Qiaozhi is a medical scientist, medical educator, and a member (academician) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Before his death, he was the director of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Peking Union Medical College Hospital and the vice president of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. Together with Jin Xueshu, the first generation of Western doctors in New China, she was known as "20 Outstanding Women in Modern Chinese History". He graduated from Peking Union Medical College in 1929, served as an assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Peking Union Medical College Hospital in 1931, an associate professor of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Peking Union Medical College Hospital in 1937, the director of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Peking Union Medical College Hospital in 1940, was elected as a member (academician) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1955, and successively served as the president of Beijing Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital and vice president of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences in 1959. He died in Beijing on April 22, 1983 at the age of 82.

Life Experience

On December 23, 1901, Lin Qiaozhi was born in a family of teachers in Gulangyu, Xiamen City, Fujian Province, when she was 5 years old, her mother died of cervical cancer, a gynecological disease, and Lin Qiaozhi decided to study medicine.

In 1919, after graduating from the Women's Normal School with excellent grades, she stayed on to teach, and was later admitted to Peking Union Medical College, where she obtained a bachelor's degree in medicine from Peking Union Medical College and was awarded the "Wenhai Scholarship" for fresh graduates of Peking Union Medical College.

In 1939, Union Medical College Hospital sent Lin Qiaozhi to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the University of Chicago School of Medicine for further study, and refused the invitation of the United States with advanced scientific research conditions and preferential treatment, and resolutely returned to China.

In 1942, Xiehe Hospital was occupied by the Japanese army as an army hospital, Lin Qiaozhi opened a gynecological clinic in Dongtangzi Hutong, with the benevolence of doctors, she not only took the initiative to reduce the registration fee, reduce the medical expenses of poor patients, but also contributed money to help patients.

In 1958, Lin Qiaozhi organized the Beijing Cancer Prevention Screening Team to conduct a gynecological examination of nearly 80,000 school-age women in Beijing, which greatly reduced the mortality rate of cervical cancer and played an exemplary role in the country.

In 1973, Lin Qiaozhi was hired as an advisor to the World Health Organization's Medical Research Advisory Committee, and later led a Chinese people's friendship delegation to visit four Western European countries with Chu Tunan, and returned to China with ischemic cerebrovascular disease in the United Kingdom.

On April 22, 1983, due to the deterioration of his condition, he died at the age of 82.

scientific research

In 1948, Lin Qiaozhi began to discover the connection between benign molar pregnancy and metastasis, and accurately divided three different diseases: benign molar pregnancy, malignant molar pregnancy and chorioepithelial carcinoma, and found the different identification signs of the three cases, laying a solid foundation for overcoming choriocarcinoma.

In the 50s of the 20th century, Lin Qiaozhi was responsible for organizing large-scale cervical cancer screening and prevention, and thoroughly analyzed the various causes of cervical cancer, and theoretically figured out the causes of cervical cancer.

In 1962, Lin Qiaozhi created the method of using umbilical vein exchange transfusion to treat neonatal hemolysis, which greatly improved the survival rate of newborns, opened up obstetrics and gynecology subspecialties such as obstetrics, gynecology, gynecological tumors, reproductive endocrinology, and family planning, and filled the gap in obstetrics and gynecology medicine in China.
