On May 8th, an international academic seminar entitled "East Meets West: From Marco Polo to the Present Cultural, Economic and Trade Relations between Croatia and Asia" was held at the Croatian Institute of the University of Zagreb, Croatia.
Dehua Kiln Heritage and Culture Research Institute actively participated in this event, organized a group of ceramic masters and experts and scholars to participate in the meeting, they brought an in-depth study of Dehua porcelain art, history and culture, and invited many ambassadors to Croatia and many experts and scholars to visit the modern display of Dehua porcelain works. At the opening ceremony, Chinese Ambassador Qi Qianjin and other ambassadors from Malaysia, Indonesia, Iran and other countries delivered warm speeches, congratulating the meeting and looking forward to further strengthening cultural exchanges and cooperation between Croatia and Asian countries through this meeting.
In the academic discussion session, the representatives of the Dehua Kiln Heritage and Culture Research Institute brought a wonderful academic report, entitled "Reflections on the Archaeological Discovery of Marco Polo and Dehua Porcelain". This report delves into Marco Polo's descriptions of Dehua porcelain in his book The Travels of Marco Polo, and how these descriptions shed light on the trade and cultural exchange between the East and the West at the time. At the same time, the report also combined with the archaeological discoveries in recent years, and conducted in-depth analysis and reflection on the spread and influence of Dehua porcelain on the ancient Silk Road. The report aroused extensive attention and heated discussions among the participants, and everyone expressed their admiration for the unique charm of Dehua porcelain and its important position in the cultural exchanges between the East and the West.
In addition to the academic report, Zheng Qinghai, a young master of Dehua, also generously donated a white porcelain statue of Marco Polo specially sculpted for this academic seminar to the Croatian Research Institute. This statue is based on Marco Polo, and skillfully combines the delicate texture of Dehua porcelain with the image of Marco Polo, which not only shows the exquisite skills of Dehua porcelain, but also reflects the integration of Chinese and Croatian cultures.
This conference is not only a grand event of academic exchanges, but also a feast of cultural integration. It has built an important platform for exchanges and mutual learning between China and Croatia and even the entire East and West, and has made positive contributions to promoting the diversified development of world cultures.
