"Romance Novels": Why are Jin Yong's novels classics?
Since the opening of the account "Liushen Leilei Reading Jin Yong" in 2014, Liushen Leilei has won the popularity and love of many readers and audiences with a very current interpretation angle and extraordinary depth of interpretation. 2024 is a hundred years before Jin Yong's birth, and ten years have passed since Liushen Leilei, a senior "Jin Yong fan", opened an account.
Liushen Lei Lei started from his own experience of reading Jin Yong when he was young, and showed readers a history of reading Jin Yong's works in the past few decades. In the 90s of the 20th century, reading Jin Yong's works was often regarded as a bad behavior of not doing his studies, and with the change of time, the status of Jin Yong's novels has changed dramatically, and now many parents encourage their children to read Jin Yong in order to cultivate their children's reading interest and literary literacy. What is the reason why Jin Yong's works go beyond the scope of ordinary martial arts novels and become literary classics in the minds of readers? Liushen Lei Lei summarized the reason with "the text of the world": Jin Yong's novel profoundly depicts human nature and the hearts of the world.
Taking the details in "Smiling Proud Jianghu" as an example, Liushen Leilei shows readers the profundity of human nature shown in Jin Yong's works: Lin Pingzhi's mother deliberately showed her dependence on her son in order to protect her son in a time of crisis, so as to protect her son's self-esteem and safety; Yue Lingshan was crazy about love, and before she died, she also chose to deceive herself, Lin Pingzhi did not mean to hurt her. The profound description of human nature makes Jin Yong's martial arts world full of real and complex emotions, which is the long-term aftertaste of his works, and also makes it go beyond the scope of ordinary martial arts novels and become a classic of modern Chinese literature.
Six gods are Leilei.
Step by step "The Legend of Deer and Ding"
Liushen Lei Lei believes that Jin Yong's profound depiction of different identities and different personalities makes his works one scene at a time and full of charm. He took "The Legend of Deer and Ding" as an example to illustrate. Wei Xiaobao and Kangxi are friends and ministers, Wei Xiaobao seems to clumsily compare Kangxi to "bird and fish soup", but he won Kangxi's love; Facing Chen Jinnan, Jin Yong used "Master, I don't live with you, you pass on my martial arts, I didn't learn anything at all" to express Wei Xiaobao's guilt and remorse. For the secondary characters, Jin Yong's description is also full of details: a garrison officer forced to eat and drink on the grounds of "good news", leaving the restaurant shopkeeper speechless; When Wei Xiaobao was frustrated, a guard used the sentence "This kid is flirting with Deputy Chief Wei like teasing my own mother" not only flattered his boss but also won the laughter of his colleagues. Characters with different positions and identities will have unexpected effects, Princess Jianning's worship of the "anti-thief" Chen Jinnan was full of grievances and dissatisfaction, and her princess status had a miraculous effect when Wei Xiaobao's family was held hostage by wicked people.
The reason why Jin Yong's works are fascinating is not only because of the fights and adventures in the martial arts world, but also because it delicately portrays various aspects of human nature.
Jin Yong's novels after "classicization".
Jin Yong once went to Peking University to study for a doctorate at the age of 80, and the president of his doctoral class was Lin Zheng, who presided over this lecture. In the conversation after the lecture, Lin Zheng mentioned the current decline in the popularity of Jin Yong's works and the scarcity of students who understand Jin Yong in the current university.
In this regard, Liushen Leilei believes that the change in the positioning of Jin Yong's works may lead to the above situation: in the era of serialization in "Ming Pao" and just published in the mainland, Jin Yong's works partially assumed the function of today's "cool text", and this function weakened with the in-depth reading of Jin Yong's works and the "classicization" of serious understanding, so with the improvement of the status of the works, the reading enthusiasm of new readers for Jin Yong weakened. However, good literary works can always grow with the growth of readers, and Jin Yong's novels, like Tang poems, can provide different insights and inspiration no matter what stage of life they read, and become a good companion in the journey of life.
