Dahe Network News (Reporter Zhu Chuanpeng Liu Xiaoming) When it comes to the profession of "nurse", do you naturally see a gentle young lady in a white uniform in front of you? Don't be preconceived, there are also a lot of "male" Dingle in Nightingale, although they don't wear swallow-tailed hats and nurse skirts, but they are by no means "rough men", they are bold and careful, patient and cautious, Bai Xiangwei, the head nurse of the emergency department of Fuwai Huazhong Cardiovascular Hospital, is one of them.

Run to buy more time for critically ill patients

A big man of more than 1.8 meters, walking with two long legs "whirring" with the wind. In the emergency room for 16 years, Bai Xiangwei participated in the emergency rescue of more than 30,000 people and saved countless precious lives.

"You are a big man, how can you be a nurse?" At work, Bai Xiangwei is often asked such questions.

Bai Xiangwei admitted frankly that this is all "fate". In 2004, Bai Xiangwei applied for Henan University, and was transferred to the nursing major by chance. But now, when I take a vacation, I miss my job and I'm ready to keep doing it.

Outside the door of the emergency department is life, inside the door is life, and the 24 hours here contain the joys and sorrows of the world, and the world is full of states.

If the hospital is a battlefield of life and death, then the emergency department is the most fierce frontline. A judgment of minutes and seconds at the time of emergency reception can sometimes mean the life and death of a patient. Because of this, in the past 16 years of work, Bai Xiangwei has always maintained a fighting state, 7 days a week, more than 10 hours a day, more than 20,000 steps, with the most accurate judgment and the fastest response, to fight for a glimmer of life for patients.

There was a transfer patient, after the handover, when Bai Xiangwei went to the patient's bed to check the medication, there was an unexpected situation, and the patient who was sitting suddenly slowly fell backwards.

"I immediately stepped forward to help him lie down while checking the ECG monitoring. The screen displays: Cardiac arrest! Bai Xiangwei said that he called a colleague at the time and immediately administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation to the patient.

In this way, the patient's family did not know what was happening, and Bai Xiangwei had successfully rescued the patient. Later, the patient was diagnosed with Ass syndrome, a serious and fatal condition.

The emergency department is faced with complex and variables of patients. "You never know what the next patient will be like in the emergency room." Bai Xiangwei said, "Only by running can we win more time for patients." ”

"Angel" is tender and masculine

As an emergency person, you need to run where you need to go, and where you rush to where the danger is. Behind the critical moment is more than ten years of training in the emergency department.

In Bai Xiangwei's view, as a male nurse in the emergency department, he has an "advantage", every time he encounters a stretcher that cannot enter the corridor, a major traffic accident, or a drowning, he needs to lift or carry the patient, Bai Xiangwei always runs in the front, hoping to try to win rescue time for the patient.

One night not long ago, a patient with Alzheimer's disease suddenly had difficulty breathing while being fed pieces of meat, and his family called 120 for help. Bai Xiangwei carried first-aid instruments and equipment, rushed to the 6th floor in dozens of seconds, and came to the side of the rescuer.

I saw that the patient's lips were purple, his breathing was intermittent, and he was at risk of suffocation at any time!

The laryngoscope was opened, the airway was cleared, the foreign body forceps were held, and the fatal piece of meat was removed, and the patient's hypoxic state was immediately relieved.

The old man's children said gratefully, "You saved my father's life!" ”

There was also a patient who had just finished eating and was "fine", when he suddenly had severe chest pain and fell to the ground in front of him, and his family quickly dialed the emergency number.

"After receiving the order to go to the hospital, we rushed to the scene and began to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the patient.

"1 time, 2 times, 3 times...... 1 minute, 2 minutes, 3 minutes...... More than 100 cardiac compressions per minute, lasting 10 minutes, made my first aid suit already soaked with sweat, and beads of sweat ran down my cheeks to the ground.

"I thought to myself: can't stop, resolutely can't stop! After more than 1,000 frenzied compressions, supported by strong beliefs, the patient's heartbeat began to beat again.

"The emergency department is busy and tiring, but I feel like I have always enjoyed this job. Because when this patient has been rescued by our best efforts and turned around, this is the most gratifying time for me. Bai Xiangwei said.

Teach first aid to more people! Give life more possibilities

With the continuous growth of the nursing team, the nurse group is no longer limited to the "little sister", and the nurse "little brother" also appears more in front of the patients.

"We now have 18 nurses in the emergency room, 10 of whom are men." Bai Xiangwei said that although they are "rough old men", their professional skills are not lost to female colleagues at all.

Bai Xiangwei recalled that when he first joined the work, many patients saw that he was a male nurse, and they were worried that they were not careful, so they asked to be replaced by a female nurse. "At that time, it was quite a blow, and several of our male nurses did puncture exercises with each other, and finally we won the recognition of patients because of our excellent skills."

"Accidents can happen anytime and anywhere in life. One more person joins the first aid team, and the endangered life has more hope of survival. Bai Xiangwei said that in order to allow more people to master basic first-aid skills, in his spare time, he often leads the nursing team to the surrounding communities, schools, and factories to publicize first-aid knowledge and self-rescue skills, especially first-aid knowledge such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation, foreign body stuck throat, trauma treatment, and acute abdominal prevention measures, and teach them to the trainees by hand.

To Bai Xiangwei's relief, at the beginning of 2021, a middle-aged man in the nearby community suddenly suffered a cardiac arrest while playing badminton, and passers-by urgently called 120 for help, and at the same time took the initiative to implement cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

"An ambulance arrived at the scene, took over CPR and defibrillated the scene, and the patient's heart rate was restored. The rescuer at that time was one of our first aid knowledge students! Bai Xiangwei said happily.
