Hong Zhenhai, formerly known as Hong Yanxing, was born in Dabeitang Village, Tengxian County, Shandong Province (now Tengzhou City) in 1910. In 1938, the Japanese army occupied Zaozhuang, and Hong Zhenhai, under the influence of the Communist Party members, actively participated in anti-Japanese activities. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Liu Jinshan, the second captain of the railway guerrillas, was awarded the rank of colonel.
