In the past April, TSMC, Samsung, and Micron received subsidies from the U.S. government one after another. According to incomplete statistics, 7 semiconductor companies have received subsidies from the U.S. government.
Micron received $6.14 billion in subsidies
Samsung received $6.4 billion in subsidies
TSMC received $6.6 billion in subsidies
Intel received $8.5 billion in subsidies
GF received $1.5 billion in subsidies
Microchip received $162 million in subsidies
The U.S. CHIPS and Science Act was enacted in August 2022 and plans to allocate more than $52.7 billion to support semiconductor R&D, manufacturing, and workforce development in the United States. Of this amount, $39 billion is a direct grant to semiconductor manufacturers.
In an interview with a reporter from China Electronics News, industry insiders said that the United States provides huge subsidies and tax incentives to the local chip industry, and some provisions force companies to abandon China and join the United States, which is obviously discriminatory, seriously violates market rules and international economic and trade rules, and will distort the global semiconductor industry chain.
