How does Avatar affect the Guardians of the Galaxy?

The Marvel Cinematic Universe and James Cameron's Avatar continue to share custody of Zoe Saldana, making her the star of the highest-grossing movie of all time (and, of course, the Marvel movie is Avengers: Endgame). But it's clear, as James Gunn recently shared, that the two franchises could influence each other in another concrete and colorful way.

James Gunn tweeted about his skin color choices for guardians of the Galaxy alien characters. Drax the Destroyer is actually green in comics like Gamora, but according to the writer/director, green is "the hardest color to look like actual skin". So the makeup department decided to choose a green-gray for Dave Bautista's fan-favorite character.

Considering that Zoe Saldana has been playing the green character in The Guardian and Avengers films, this is an interesting answer.

There are other blue-skinned characters in Guardians of the Galaxy, such as Yondu, but it would feel superfluous if Zoe Sandana became the blue character again. If they did, she might even be somewhat familiar with Netily. So, despite some difficulties added to the makeup department, Gamora kept it green.

It took Zoe Saldana about three hours to get to Gamora from herself, and it took 30 to 45 minutes to complete at the end of the day.

But for Avatar, the character was achieved through motion capture performances, and the time on the makeup chair was greatly reduced, except for putting a string of dots on her face. Ironically, Zoe Saldana's biggest role allowed her to completely change her appearance, but the different appearances definitely allowed the actress to disappear into these alien roles.

Zoe Saldana will continue to star in both roles in the near future. The actress has returned to Netty to shoot two Alvarda sequels that have already been filmed. Avatar 2 will be released in December 2022 and Avatar 3 will be released in December 2023. James Cameron and Disney are expected to make two other Avatar movies.

Saldana was last played as Gamora in Avengers: Endgame, and although the character was killed in Infinity War, she was able to return to the circle (through time travel). The actress will play her role again in the third volume of Guardians of the Galaxy, released in 2023.
