In 1957, Han Zhenxiang went to study at the Department of Electric Power of Moscow Power Institute and received a doctorate degree in 1961. In 1980, Han Zhenxiang, already a professor, went to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the United States and the Bonneville Power Bureau of the Department of Energy as a visiting scholar. At that time, he believed that for engineering scholars, it was not enough to learn theoretical knowledge, and practical ability was particularly important, so he took the initiative to apply for a visit to the power bureau and participated in the software writing work. Because of the excellent work, the leaders of the power bureau presented him with the software he had participated in writing, along with several other sets of software of great practical value. It is these software that have played a huge role in promoting the research and construction of the mainland's power system.

Han Zhenxiang has long been committed to the cutting-edge research of power system and its automation, and is one of the main research innovators of theories, methods and new technologies of power system and automation in mainland China, and has made important contributions to improving the safe and economic operation of power system.

Since the 60s, he has been engaged in the stability research of power systems in the former Soviet Union and China, and participated in the experimental research of series capacitance compensation for the first high-voltage transmission line in China. Since the 1970s, he has been in charge of the "Research on the Theory and Methods of Modeling, Analysis and Control of AC and DC Power Systems", and the results of this project won the third prize of the National Natural Science Award in 1997. He is one of the earliest researchers engaged in the application of computers in the power system in China, and took the lead in developing a complete set of power system engineering application software in the mainland, and has made important contributions to improving the safe and economic operation of the power system, and his research results "power system simultaneous fault analysis methods and procedures" won the second prize of scientific and technological progress of the State Education Commission in 1986, and the research results "power system power flow, transient stability and load prediction calculation methods and procedures" led by him In 1988, he won the first prize of scientific and technological progress of the State Education Commission. He advocated and engaged in the application of new control methods and artificial intelligence in power systems, and his research results "Research on Artificial Intelligence in Power Systems" won the second prize of Science and Technology Progress Award of the Ministry of Education in 1998, and the research results "Research on Stability Control and Intelligent Optimization Theory and Method of Complex Nonlinear Power System" won the second prize of the National Natural Science Award in 2007 (ranked third).

In 1951, Han Zhenxiang graduated from the Department of Electrical Engineering of Zhejiang University and stayed on to teach, and began to engage in the teaching and scientific research of power system and automation, and taught courses such as "Power Network and Power System", "Power System Stability", "Power System Non-synchronous Operation", "Power System Series Capacitance Compensation" and so on. He has published 8 books and textbooks, published more than 200 papers, and served as the editor-in-chief and deputy editor-in-chief of the important domestic reference books "Handbook of Mechanical Engineering" and "Encyclopedia of Chinese Electric Power". From 1979 to 1981, he served as the dean of the Department of Electrical Engineering of Zhejiang University, and made every effort to promote the development of disciplines.

He actively promoted teaching reform, and made significant contributions to the establishment and development of the power system and its automation discipline in mainland China, and the cultivation of senior engineering and technical personnel. He has won many awards such as the title of Advanced Scientific and Technological Worker in National Colleges and Universities, the title of Model Worker of Zhejiang Province, the title of Meritorious Teacher of Zhejiang Province, and the first prize of the National Teaching Achievement Award.

Explorer of higher education talent training

Han Zhenxiang is also a pioneer and explorer of talent training in higher education. From 1984 to 1988, he served as the president of Zhejiang University, actively promoting education and teaching reform. During this period, Zhu Kezhen College of Zhejiang University, the former Zhejiang University (Engineering) Mixed Class, was established, and began to actively explore the cultivation of top-notch innovative talents in engineering.

At that time, there was no precedent for high school students to be sent directly to institutions of higher learning, and Zhejiang University became the first batch of schools in the country to enroll students independently. With the support of Han Zhenxiang, the mixed class has established a series of training mechanisms for special talents: the implementation of a competitive selection system, a strict elimination system, and a tutor system. With the guiding ideology of "high starting point, new content, strong ability, and emphasis on cultivating creative desire", we implement the principle of teaching students according to their aptitude, and cultivate engineering talents with a solid foundation, broad thinking, and innovative ability with all-round development of morality, intellect and physique.

After more than 30 years of development, as an honor college that implements "special training" and "elite training" for outstanding undergraduates, Zhu Kezhen College of Zhejiang University has become a "test field" for teaching reform of Zhejiang University, a high-quality platform for the pursuit of excellence in education and an important base for special training, and has cultivated a number of strategic scientists, innovative engineering and scientific and technological talents, high-tech entrepreneurial talents and leaders from all walks of life.

In 1984, at the inaugural meeting of the graduate school of the university, he proposed that "the education work should be transferred from the training of undergraduates to the track of equal emphasis on the training of undergraduates and graduate students", carried out a series of reforms in all aspects of the enrollment, training and management of graduate students, established a series of strict management systems for the training of graduate students, strengthened ideological education, and formed a new pattern of "multi-channel enrollment, multi-form training, and all-round management".
