Just as our people regard May Day, National Day, and New Year as important festivals for Chinese, in the United States, there are also their own festivals.
Every year, the fourth Thursday of November is the very grand Thanksgiving Day in the United States, and on this day, almost every household will prepare rich and delicious food, among which turkey is the most essential food.
It's like we want to eat rice dumplings, rice balls or dumplings on special festivals, but there is one thing that everyone cannot understand, that is, although Chinese eat everything, from all kinds of livestock to insects, there are options to eat.
But why is it that no one eats turkey? Not only is no one eats it, but even the breeders are very scarce, so can it be said that turkey is worse than all the food we encounter?
Western turkey
Speaking of which, Westerners have eaten turkey for about 400 years, especially on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas, turkey has become almost an essential delicacy.
Although we Chinese have never eaten turkey, we have more or less seen from some film and television dramas, and their methods of eating turkey are almost the same, basically put it whole in the oven for cooking.
At the same time, the turkey's belly is stuffed with what they like to eat, and then a turkey that looks like a lot of flavor is served.
According to one statistic, on Thanksgiving Day alone, the local people in the United States alone can consume as much as 300 million tons of turkey meat, so it is not difficult to see how popular turkey is in the local area.
Not only the United States, but also Australia, Canada, Mexico and other countries have a love for things like turkey in their bones.
As one of their main foods, turkey has been identified by experts as having a very high nutritional content, even surpassing beef to some extent, and its nutritional value is mainly reflected in one high and two low.
To put it simply, it has high protein, low fat and low cholesterol, which is a blessing for many fitness enthusiasts, and it can be said to be suitable for most people.
Even if you don't talk about the nutritional value, just from the appearance, it makes many people drool.
But on the contrary, it is difficult to find a food like turkey in China, and not only that, when someone tries to eat turkey, it is even more unacceptable.
Turkey was introduced to China
If we look at history, we can know that turkeys have been introduced to China for 150 years, when local missionaries from Europe and the United States came to the coastal cities of the mainland and brought turkeys with them.
At first, there was a lot of interest in this species, which is larger than our domestic chickens, but when we cooked it and tasted it, we simply removed it from our food list.
This is not to say that the mainland is picky about food, you must know that the food on the mainland has been eliminated and selected for so many years, and those who can stay are basically idlers who have gone through several rounds of screening.
The reason why turkey does not appear on our recipe is mainly due to the following reasons.
One of them is that the turkey is too unpalatable, and the turkey meat has a characteristic, that is, it is not only firewood but also hard, and sometimes if the turkey is not well heated, it will also show a very dry feeling.
This alone directly stumps most of the Chinese foodies, the first and most important point of any food we eat is delicious, if it is not delicious, who will bother to eat it.
Besides, turkey is basically dispensable for the mainland, and there is so much food that can replace it that there is no need for us to breed it for such an unpalatable thing.
Besides, compared with the local chicken in the mainland, the former turkey is simply incomparable, and we are more accustomed to the taste of local chicken.
And it is also a big problem in terms of breeding, we all know that chickens can be raised in any place in our country, mainly because they are small in size and easy to manage.
Turkeys, on the other hand, are very difficult to manage, and their meat is because of their athletic ability, jumping up and down every day, and they are extremely edible.
It belongs to the level of the big stomach king in the animal kingdom, which leads to the fact that if you breed turkeys, the initial cost will be quite high, and almost no one will eat turkeys in China, so naturally not many people will breed turkeys.
And they are eight or nine times the size of ordinary chickens, which is one of the main reasons why turkeys cannot be raised on a large scale on the mainland.
But Western countries are different, take the United States as an example, as a vast and sparsely populated country, the last thing they lack is land, so you can often see large-scale farms in the local area, and these are very suitable for raising turkeys.
Another point is that the way of eating is very different, and the turkey field is very large, which also means that if Westerners cook such a large turkey field, they will basically not cook other food.
In comparison, the mainland prefers to fry a few dishes on the dinner table, and basically it is rare to see a large number of people eating a vegetable field in China.
This is also destined to be the reason why turkey cannot become a mainstream market in China, if the turkey meat is a little more delicious, maybe we can also develop a different way to eat, after all, there is definitely a suitable one for it.
But if the turkey does not fit the Chinese stomach from the beginning, then no one will waste time studying how to eat turkey will be delicious.
Speaking of which, Thanksgiving, which is connected to turkey, also has this rather ironic history.
The origin of Thanksgiving
As one of the biggest holidays in the United States, Thanksgiving is celebrated in a variety of ways, and most people choose to leave work to spend the unforgettable day with their families.
In addition to having a reunion dinner as a family, there will be some games after the meal, which is also a favorite pastime for local children, such as pumpkin races, cranberry races and so on.
If you don't know about Thanksgiving, seeing them so celebrated, you will definitely think that this festival is the same as the Spring Festival or National Day in the mainland, very festive.
But those who really know the origins of Thanksgiving don't think so, and the world's first Thanksgiving came on a Thursday in late November 1621.
Before that, a ship from England had arrived in the Americas, and because of persecution, they had to flee to this place, and many of them were depressed in the unfamiliar situation.
But they were also fortunate to meet the local natives, that is, the Indians, and did not reject these outsiders, the Indians, but showed a warm side.
Not only did they teach them how to survive on the continent, but they also survived the difficult winter of the English, so in gratitude to the Indians, they invited the Indians to celebrate on this day in 1621.
And this day was set as the future American Thanksgiving, but what the other Indians did not expect was that their kindness back then brought them death.
When the refugees who came here stabilized themselves, they began their banditry, which led to the fact that the number of indigenous Indians is now so scarce.
It seems that the United States has carried a kind of aggressive mentality from the very beginning, and this can be seen from their various manifestations in the future.
When we come back to the problem of turkey, it is not that we people cannot eat turkey, but when the food is all over China, there is no room for turkey to survive.
If you think about it, it seems that we are familiar with what kind of yellow stewed chicken, white cut chicken, large plate chicken, and spicy chicken which flavor is not the existence of a turkey second.
After all, as a big country dominated by foodies, there is no shortage of food at all, and if you say that the famous food in Western countries can be eaten in a month.
Then when you come to China, you may not even be able to eat the local food of a province in a month, and you will not be able to bring the same thing.
