The beginning of summer will be on May 5 this year, and the arrival of "Lixia" also indicates that the "hot" summer is about to kick off, and the weather will get hotter and hotter after that, and our succulents will also face the test of life and death. Although I have been raising succulents for 10 years, I still have a headache when it comes to summer, after all, everyone knows that the weather is getting weirder and weirder, and at the same time, I am not very suitable for raising succulents here, so I feel a lot of pressure every summer!

Of course, as a person who has been "meaty" for 10 years, my flesh still rarely hangs up without encountering extreme hot weather. So how to "prevent hanging" of succulents in summer? It's very simple, as long as we do the following 6 points, the succulents will naturally not be easy to hang up!
The first point: adjust the succulent ones that are not growing well in advance. After each summer, there will always be some succulents affected, and in this case we need to make adjustments in advance, for example, succulents with bad roots will be pruned and replanted, and succulents with stalks will be cut off and cuttings (I usually deal with them every autumn), so that they can be safe and sound the next summer.

The second point: let the succulent take care of the root system in spring. We all know that spring is the season for succulents to grow, and it is also the best time for them to raise their roots, so I usually no longer control them every spring, but let them rain when it should rain. Because spring rain is the best "nourishment" for succulents, they will grow up every time they are drenched in the rain, and the root system is more and more developed, and in the case of strong roots and strong stems, our succulents are naturally not easy to hang up in summer.

Number 3: Be prepared for shade at all times. After 10 years of "meat farming", I know that most succulent varieties are not resistant to high temperatures and sun exposure, so once the measured temperature exceeds 35°C, I will immediately shade them. In addition, some succulents that are not sun-tolerant, such as ruby, ice age, and ivory Dongyun, when the temperature is not high but the ultraviolet rays are strong, I move them to astigmatism in the morning to maintain. And it is precisely by relying on this "cautious" cultivation method that my flesh will basically not hang up due to exposure!

Fourth, selectively control water. That's because different types of succulents will be different, for example, the proportion of mage, fairy cup and thin-leaf succulent soil particles is usually about 5-6 percent, and some of them will be dormant, so they need to control the water more strictly in summer, otherwise they are prone to problems. As for some common succulent varieties, they usually have a soil particle ratio of about 7 percent, so I only shade them in the summer and water them as usual (just change to water along the edge of the pot at night). After all, the proportion of potting soil particles is high, and they dry quickly, and they are more likely to get sick or hang up if they control water too much.

Point 5: Strengthen ventilation and help cool down the succulents. My approach is to blow a fan on the succulent when it's hotter in the summer, and it's a horn fan with strong wind – just put it on the roof during the day and turn it up, which can not only achieve good ventilation, but also help the succulent cool down. And with good ventilation and a drop in temperature, the succulent will certainly not be easy to hang.

Point 6: Sterilize the succulents. According to my maintenance experience, succulents are not only afraid of high temperature and exposure to the sun in summer, they are more afraid of bituminous coal disease, so every year after the beginning of summer, I will spray some broad-spectrum fungicide on the succulents to improve their resistance, so as to avoid various problems caused by bituminous coal disease when the high temperature comes, such as local black rot of the stems and rapid consumption of leaves, etc., which will increase their mortality in summer.
