A few days ago, the Talent Development Committee of the Chinese Society for Education Development Strategy, China Education Online Academic Bridge and the research group of "Research on the Development and Evaluation of Academic Talents in Chinese Universities (CUSS)" jointly released the "2023 Big Data Insight Report on the Teacher Population of Job Seeking Universities" (hereinafter referred to as the "Report"). According to the report, the vast majority of job-seeking college teachers are Chinese nationals, with the largest number of them coming from Shandong, Henan, and Hebei; 62% of job seekers with a "first degree" is not a double first-class degree, but the vast majority of doctoral universities are domestic and foreign top universities.

According to Professor Wang Yunhai, chief expert of the research group and professor of the Center for Education and Open Economy of the University of International Business and Economics, the sample data of the report comes from the data of 30,500 job seekers who signed up to participate in 67 domestic and foreign job fairs organized or hosted (co-organized) by Academic Bridge in 2023 and the International Young Scholars Forum. Academic Bridge Talent Consultants provided one-on-one job search consulting services for these talents, helping them connect with government departments, universities, research institutes and high-tech enterprises, and finally 26,818 people received effective feedback (such as interviews, trial lectures, etc.), of which 5,314 were invited to participate in the International Young Scholars Forum. The report counts and analyzes the gender, age, marital status, place of origin, study experience, scientific research achievements and other relevant information of the sample population. Statistics show that among the 26,818 job seekers, the proportion of men is slightly higher, at 58.4%. In terms of marital status, unmarried job seekers accounted for 63.8%, which was significantly higher than that of married workers. In terms of age, the distribution range is wide, ranging from 20 to 67 years old, but mainly from 29 to 33 years old.

In addition, the report points out that the population of job-seeking university teachers is international. Although Chinese scholars make up the vast majority, there are also many foreign scholars who apply for Chinese universities. Among domestic job seekers, Shandong Province is far ahead with 17.53%, and the number of Henan and Hebei nationals is second and third respectively. Foreign scholars are mainly from Australia, Singapore, Canada, the United States and Germany.

Among the people who are looking for college teachers, the vast majority have doctoral degrees, more than half of them have bachelor's degrees in non-"double first-class" universities, and only 38% of them have bachelor's degrees from "double first-class" universities. It can be seen that in the academic talent market, there are more scholars with bachelor's degrees from non-"double first-class" universities, but the vast majority of doctoral universities are leading universities at home and abroad.

The "Report" points out that nearly 40 percent of the teachers who are looking for jobs in colleges and universities have overseas study experience, and most of them study abroad in the United Kingdom, the United States, and South Korea. At the same time, more than half of the job seekers have published scientific research results in SCI Zone 1, accounting for 61.17%. On the whole, job seekers have good scientific research accumulation.
