The Houthis opened heavy fire, the US troops withdrew on a large scale, and even the aircraft carrier battle group ran away

author:Weapon battle position

Recently, the situation in the Middle East is still tense, and in order to help Israel and support Israel, the United States has sent a large number of warships and military planes to the Middle East to carry out activities, and even the US aircraft carrier strike group has gone there. For example, in the direction of the Red Sea, many US warships have been operating in this area for a long time. The main purpose is to help Israel intercept Houthi missiles, and even before that, it cooperated with the British air to attack Houthi targets in Yemen, causing considerable losses.

However, instead of intimidating the U.S. and not arming, it provoked a larger Houthi attack, targeting not only Israeli ships, but also targeting missiles and drones at U.S. warships, and more recently, opening fire.

The Houthis opened heavy fire, the US troops withdrew on a large scale, and even the aircraft carrier battle group ran away

For example, on April 27, the Houthis claimed that they had used anti-aircraft missiles to shoot down an intrusive American Reaper drone over a relevant area in Yemen.

In addition, Yemen's Houthi spokesman Sarea also issued a public statement on April 30 saying that on April 28, the Houthis launched a large-scale drone attack on two U.S. destroyers and a merchant ship linked to Israel in the Red Sea. Subsequently, the U.S. Central Command issued a statement saying that it had successfully intercepted five drones from the Houthi attack, and in the end, these drones did not cause any damage or casualties to the U.S. warship.

However, the Houthis said in a separate statement that the Houthis launched drones that day to "accurately hit" the Cyclades in the Red Sea and the Orion in the Mediterranean, another in the Indian Ocean. The Houthis claimed that both vessels were linked to the Israeli side, such as the Cyclades, which docked at an Israeli port on April 21 and was therefore a legitimate target for Houthi "strikes."

As a result, the Houthis have been attacking the Red Sea with increasing intensity, striking from multiple directions in just one day, attacking not only US warships, but also Israeli merchant ships on the other side.

In the face of the increasing attacks of the Houthis, the United States not only did not make any counterattack moves, but seemed to be unable to support it in the Red Sea, and there was an urgent large-scale retreat, and even the US aircraft carrier battle group suddenly ran away from the Red Sea.

According to US media reports, the US Navy's USS Eisenhower aircraft carrier battle group suddenly withdrew from the waters around the Red Sea a few days ago and sailed for the eastern Mediterranean. It is claimed that the withdrawal of the USS Eisenhower aircraft carrier battle group from the Red Sea is not because it is "afraid" of the Houthis, but because the Mediterranean direction needs more US aircraft carrier strike groups, and even to deter the nearby Black Sea. After all, on the battlefield in Ukraine today, the Russian army's offensive is also fierce, and the Ukrainian army is retreating, and the US military will inevitably not give up on Ukraine while taking care of the situation in the Middle East.

However, this view was quickly questioned. Because since the outbreak of the Gaza conflict, the US "Eisenhower" aircraft carrier battle group has been deployed in the Middle East since November 2023. The deployment of this aircraft carrier strike group in the Middle East is obviously aimed at preventing the outbreak of a larger conflict in the Middle East and forming a military deterrent to all countries in the region. In this case, the US military can deter the Middle East by deploying all the "Eisenhower" aircraft carrier strikes in the Red Sea or in the Mediterranean, and it has no intention of supporting Ukraine, so why did it suddenly run from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean? What is it that is not afraid of the Houthi attack?

After all, Houthi missiles currently only cover the Red Sea, and are completely out of reach in the farther Mediterranean. Obviously, the US aircraft carrier strike group is clearly intended to avoid the Houthi missile attack, after all, the deployment of the aircraft carrier strike group in the Red Sea not only does not deter the Houthis and play a role in stopping the Houthi attack on the Red Sea, but also faces the risk of being attacked by the Houthis at any time. Then it is better to evacuate all of them, after all, it is useless to put them in the Red Sea.

At the same time, another guided-missile destroyer, USS Carney, which is part of the US Navy, has been deployed in the Red Sea to fight the Houthis since the outbreak of the conflict in Gaza last October. Unexpectedly, the destroyer also withdrew from the Red Sea earlier this month and headed for the Mediterranean.

It can be seen from this that if it is not that the United States is "afraid", it is really difficult to explain this behavior of the US Navy. There is a view that in the face of the continued attacks and harassment of the Houthi forces, the United States may have already made the United States anxious and unable to guard against it, and the sudden withdrawal of warships from the United States after the US warships and the Red Sea region have been repeatedly attacked, obviously means that the United States may no longer want to continue to consume the Houthis in the Red Sea.

After all, in order to help Israel stop the sword, the United States has spent a lot of manpower and material resources in the hands of the Houthis, even the anti-aircraft missiles launched every day to intercept Houthi attacks are a lot of money. If this kind of struggle continues, the United States may suffer even greater losses in the Middle East, and it is obvious that the gains outweigh the losses, and the United States is now ready to abandon such a practice.
