According to the website of the US Naval Institute News Network, the US Navy announced on the 24th that the aircraft carrier "Washington" will depart from Norfolk Naval Base in Virginia this week. According to a press release issued by the U.S. Southern Command, the USS Washington will first be deployed within the U.S. Southern Command mission area to participate in the U.S. Fourth Fleet's "Southern Seas-2024" activities.
The Southern Seas campaign will involve ships from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Uruguay sailing alongside the U.S. military, during which the Washington is scheduled to make port calls in Brazil, Chile and Peru. "More than 20 officers from 11 partner nations" will also be on duty on the carrier, and these international personnel will be trained and mentored by the U.S. Naval War College.
The United States has always regarded Latin America as its own "backyard" and adopted covert "neo-colonialism" to control Latin America. Most Latin American countries do not have strong overall national strength and lack the confidence to confront each other, so they actively or passively attach themselves to the feet of the Americans. For example, Cuba has been at odds with the United States for a long time, and even if it has been blocked and sanctioned by the United States for more than half a century, it has no intention of giving in.
If it were just Cuba, the United States would not be worried, because the United States can turn its hands into clouds and rain, and a small country does not pose a big problem. However, with the outbreak of a series of "black swan" events one after another, US hegemony has been challenged from many quarters, and the United States has to invest a lot of resources in Europe, the Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific region, and does not have too many resources to suppress Latin America. In the end, many Latin American countries accelerated their reunion, such as Brazil's return to the Union of South American Nations. The resurgence of the Union of South American Nations reflects the firm determination of South American and even Latin American countries to unite and strengthen themselves, resist hegemony, and seek their own path of modernization.
The strategic purpose of the "Washington" aircraft carrier's "patrol" in Latin America is self-evident, that is, to deter the "restless" minds of Latin American countries through military deterrence. The United States should make all Latin American countries realize that the United States is still the world's leader and still has the ability to control Latin America. If you don't want to be a banana republic, then wait for the regime to be overthrown.
After completing the "tour" in Latin America, the "Washington" will eventually sail to the Asia-Pacific region and be deployed in Japan for a long time, replacing the "Reagan" aircraft carrier currently deployed in Japan. In 2015, the USS Washington returned to the United States and entered the refueling cycle. During this period, the "Washington" was modified and upgraded to have the ability to carry MQ-25A UAVs, becoming the first aircraft carrier of the US military with the ability to deploy carrier-based refueling UAVs. The U.S. strategic focus is continuing to shift to the Asia-Pacific region, and the instability in the region has increased significantly.
