To pesticide e-commerce: no profit, where to innovate, how to develop the industry with high quality?

author:Agricultural materials herald pesticides

During the Labor Day, this article first wants to say to nearly 1 million practitioners who are committed to pesticide research and development, production, sales and promotion, you have worked hard! Thank you for your contribution to the scientific and safe use of pesticides in China, the innovation of pesticide preparations in China and the rise of brands! This article will talk about personal insights on the case of "some pesticide e-commerce companies selling unauthorized pesticide products", which is the most controversial in the pesticide industry in recent years.

Agricultural production is a high input, low output, slow effect, high risk activities, compared with rent, labor, fertilizer, seeds (seedlings), hydropower and other inputs with a high proportion of input, although pesticides only account for a small part of its production costs, but the impact on the harvest of agricultural products is the greatest.

In the pesticide supply chain, brands hand over the main promotion, publicity, sales, and service to offline channels (agents, retail) and marketing teams, and they need to pay a lot of costs to complete these tasks, so they must ensure a certain profit margin. However, in recent years, some pesticide e-commerce companies have used the resources obtained through abnormal channels to compete for offline channel customers at low prices and squeeze out the developed market of offline channels, which has brought a serious impact on the existing business model.

From the current point of view, the reason why some pesticide e-commerce companies have to get the source of pesticide products with brand influence and popularity through other channels without authorization is because these products have their own traffic and are easier to form online orders, but this kind of low-price channeling behavior, its so-called "advantage" is based on the hard work of the brand and offline entities, and it is a disguised harvest of the mature market, which is a bit ugly and brings serious harm to the interests of the brand and channel customers. They take advantage of the loopholes in the rules that lag behind the reality and take advantage of the loopholes in laws and regulations to obtain ill-gotten gains. Therefore, in recent years, disputes between pesticide companies and pesticide e-commerce companies are not uncommon!

It is also in this battle of wits and courage that all kinds of strange phenomena began to appear: some e-commerce companies destroyed the logistics code on the product packaging box and deliberately concealed the evidence of the transaction, which not only fully shows that they know that they are wrong, but also suspected of operating in violation of laws and regulations; !

On the surface, e-commerce low-cost sales of agricultural materials, does not violate laws and regulations, but now is not illegal, does not mean that the future will not be illegal! Relevant parties may, in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Regulations, require law enforcement authorities to inspect the compliance of e-commerce operations. If one day laws and regulations clearly stipulate that e-commerce companies are not allowed to sell their products online without the authorization of the brand owner, all the problems that plague the brand and offline and online operators will be solved.

Through analysis, the author found that although a small number of brands have authorized certain products as "e-commerce monopoly", it is because these products have almost no profit margin for brands and physical stores. However, often those innovative, differentiated, and core technology products pay more attention to the promotion and protection of offline channels, and will not be sold online.

Pesticides are a rigid demand market, but at the same time, they are also a stock market. E-commerce continues to shout "bring down the price", but for pesticide enterprises, there is no profit, where is the innovation? How to promote the sustained, healthy and high-quality development of China's pesticide industry? Where does the new quality productivity of pesticides come from? How to solve the problem of "stuck neck" in pesticide production?

According to the latest statistics from Agbiolnvestor, the cost of developing and marketing a new pesticide active ingredient has risen to $301 million. The R&D and promotion of new products are inseparable from brands and physical stores going deep into the fields to communicate face-to-face with growers, explore needs and solve problems. However, from the current point of view, online low-price sales have disrupted the market, violated the sales agreement reached between the brand and the offline sales channel, and brought the brand not the growth of profits and sales, but the collapse of the image and credit of the offline physical store in the eyes of growers and the brand in the eyes of the physical store.

If growers no longer trust the physical store, and the physical store does not promote new products; if the brand does not have offline channel promotion and in-depth communication with growers, not only will it lose the motivation for innovation, innovation will have no stamina, but also the existing products will not be sold, and survival will be a problem; if the growers do not have good pesticides, the safety of agricultural production will be greatly impacted. Pesticides are strategic substances to ensure national food security, if there is no profit support, once the market fluctuations, it will undoubtedly bring huge challenges to food security!

So finally, the author also wants to ask, pesticide e-commerce, do you dare not rub the traffic of unauthorized brand enterprises and brand products, and directly do your own brand?
